The PSP has the same hardware (save for 2 small differences) specifications as a Playstation 2. It uses a different media format though, and instead of a SONY MagicGate 8MB flash memory card, it can use any SONY memory stick for flash memory. Everything, literally, that the PSP can do, the Playstaion 2 can do, but has the features and capabilities that come along with portability.
The NintendoDS is a revolutionary medium for interactive gaming. Yes, it's got the same hardware as the GBA (ARM7 CPU), but it's also got a ton of other new stuff. An enhanced 3D renderer, totally different CPU for most everything else (ARM9 CPU), touch-screen capabilities, integrated microphone, and chat program built-in to the BIOS program. It makes gaming fun and innovative, and I'd say that's way the hell better than porting a Gamecube and changing the media format.
But then again, comparing a PSP to a DS is like comparing a Chrysler to a Kenmore (vehicle to an appliance)--completely different things.
