Avocados

Feb 24, 2006 09:04

I keep reading about people feeding their babies avocados, so I thought I'd try it. Not being an avocado fan myself though, I thought I'd ask for some help. 1.) How do I know when they are ripe? 2.) How do you prepare it for baby? She's 5 months. Thanks!

When are a little squishy to the touch. Cut it in half around the middle and then twist apart. You don't have to prepare it in any specific way for a tyke because it's so soft. I guess you could cut little wedges...

Just mashing up a little bit should work. It's pretty soft to begin with when it's ripe.

I ask the guy in the produce section. "Hey, this look ripe?" Then I get pissed off when I get home and find out he knows less about produce than me. Not being an avicado afficianado, I can't help. Mainly I wanted to take the opportunity to bash on the produce guy.

Let me know how it works out.

The skin should be blackish, and it will be soft. Summer likes them with lemon juice and ketchup...but I'm not sure if you can feed babies lemon juice or ketchup, so...squished up, I guess. Good luck!
