Character Name: Sakura Haruno.

Canon source: Naruto.

Personality: When Sakura is first introduced, it's immediately apparent that although she's a very smart, hardworking and ambitious kunioichi (female ninja), she is consumed by her obsession for her teammate, Sasuke Uchiha, emo boy wonder. Her potential is great, but is constantly untapped as she's too busy chasing after Sasuke, yelling at Naruto about Sasuke, fighting Ino for Sasuke, trying to prove herself to Sasuke, etc and ad finitum. She does show glimpses of her true personality, however, which mostly emerge in the heat of battle. While Sakura is protecting the unconscious bodies of Sasuke and Naruto, her opponent grabs her long hair (grown out because of a rumor that Sasuke liked girls with long hair, sigh) and taunts her for paying more attention to her appearance than her teammates. This causes Sakura to cut her hair to release Kin's hold on her, and determinedly attacking the other team with a new goal of better herself and surpassing her teammates.

Sakura, early on, is frequently unsure and insecure, looking outside herself for validation. She's plagued by self-doubt over everything from her appearance (her forehead is kind of enormous) to her place in the world, and, for a good ten years, she relied on her best friend Ino Yamanaka to provide guidance. Sasuke provided to be a sufficient catalyst for Sakura to break away from her dependence on the other girl, using their rivalry over him to terminate their friendship in the hopes that one day Sakura could stand on her own. Her loyalty to her teammates, her fierce determination to prove and improve herself, and her desire to be relied on instead of being hovered over become the main facets of her personality.

In her universe, Sasuke never left, and Team 7 remains mostly intact. Even though the world that she lives in is more dangerous, and the political climate is much more tumultuous, she's never experienced the personal tragedies of her OU counterpart. Sasuke is still in the village and Naruto has never made her a promise to retrieve him. Therefore, Sakura is no longer obsessed with Sasuke's return and redemption. Instead, her focus is turned onto herself and her teammates, doing whatever she can to protect those around her. This Sakura has never wanted anything more than acknowledgment -- from her parents, from Tsunade, from Sasuke, from Ino, even from Naruto. And it's finally hers, this acknowledgment, solid and tangible, perched upon her shoulders. As ANBU's primary medic, a talented jounin kuniochi and the de-facto director of Konoha's hospital, she tends to work herself to death, but it's all for them. When she hasn't slept in a week, when her hands are covered in blood and death is the only thing she can smell, their faith in her spurs her on. She would be nothing without the people she has sworn to protect.

And, of course, she's still loud-spoken, emotional, frequently physically violent, engaged in an epic frenemy relationship with Ino and retardedly in love with Sasuke. These are facts likely to be a constant across the multiverse.

History: Here, though part II doesn't apply because…

How does your AU differ from canon? Sakura comes from a universe in which Sasuke never left, Itachi and the rest of the Akatsuki are alive, and Orochimaru has been slithering about, trying to find a new host. The Five Shinobi Nations are constantly at odds with one another, alliances are strained, and, due to frank mistrust and political ridiculousness, Sunagakure has fallen. In an attempt to extend the first olive branch offered in years, Tsunade opens Konoha's gates to the former royal family and whatever civilians and shinobi of Sand that need a home.

That turns out as well as one might expect.

In this universe, Sakura is an twenty-year-old medic-nin, frequently dispatched by the Hokage on S-ranked ANBU missions. She is not ANBU's personal medic, no matter what ANBU Falcon may or may not claim. When not in the field, she spends most of her time at the hospital, vastly overworked and undercompensated, and trying to keep Sasuke and Naruto from killing each other. She has gotten used to Ino's friendship with Temari but she doesn't like it, and her trust in Gaara and the other Sand people has always been thin. She hasn't had much time to think about that, however, as the Akatsuki are mobilizing, and Sasori recently somehow returned from the dead with Sakura his target. In fact, Sakura's drop in point is going to be while she's recovering after an epic battle with him, during which he poisoned her and told her he'd like to add her to his collection.

See the personality section for more information!

Strengths: Sakura is a ninja, specifically an exceptionally talented medic-nin, with specialties in poisons and herbal medicines. She has exquisite control of chakra has allowed her to develop such skills as healing fatal wounds easily. Her chakra control also comes in handy in taijutsu (close combat), as she's able to tune it so finely as to deliver attacks with crushing physical strength. She easily decimate any obstacle and turn it to rubble, and an opponent struck by her full strength could suffer from anything ranging from instant death, broken bones, ruptured organs, or any other wound associated with intense blunt force trauma. She is also quite proficient in those crazy ninjutsu (hand seal associated physical attacks) and genjutsu (manipulating the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, causing an illusion) techniques

Weaknesses: Speed and stamina. Self-doubt. Insecurity. Temper and emotions. Obsession with Sasuke, sigh.

Preferred drop-in point: N-N-New Mexico.

What are some of your plans for this character in their new environment? Getting used to the technology (what is phone?), facing the fact that every person she knows is from some alternate, weird universe, and, then, punching people in the face. Hard. Also, although Ino is a nice consolation prize, WHERE IS SASUKE!!?
