Chapter 1 //
Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Yoochun had been strolling to school, wondering why the hell his parents had ever decided to move back to Korea again. Life in Korea wasn’t pleasant - though it wasn’t like he was trying to make it pleasant. His class was filled with vain idiots and even though Yoochun knew he could have befriended them if he wanted… what was the point of having those idiots as friends?
Lost in thoughts, Yoochun had continued his way to school. He knew he was late but he didn't care. Skipping classes was the ideal way to thwart the ‘good’ intentions of his parents. Ever since the boy had come to Korea, all he wanted to do was to rebel against the persons who had decided to ruin his life. Yoochun had loved it in the States where he had many friends and where his brother, Yoohwan, was as well. But his parents had decided that it would be better for Yoochun to return to Korea so he could improve his Korean.
Or well, that was what his parents had tried to tell him. Yoochun knew they were hoping he would find a nice Korean girl. Psh, not a chance.
Suddenly, his eye got caught by a person who had been walking before him for a few minutes already. Yoochun hadn’t noticed the short and shaky steps the person had been taking because he had been too preoccupied. The person only grabbed his attention when he suddenly walked to the sidewalk and squatted, his whole body trembling.
A little bit surprised, Yoochun saw that the trembling boy was wearing the same school uniform as he was wearing. It took him another moment to recognize the boy - it was Kim Junsu, the boy he had been forced to sit next to. Hesitantly, he walked closer.
“What’s wrong? Are you alright?” Yoochun asked, putting his hand on the shoulder of the trembling boy.
The moment that followed would burn itself in his mind. Junsu looked up, his eyes filled with tears, searching for the person who had spoken to him. In that one moment Yoochun could see how lost the boy looked. The eyes of the young Junsu were filled with hurt, misery and loneliness.
The gaze in Junsu’s eyes nailed him to the ground, causing his body to be unable to move. It made him feel uneasy - it felt like he was an intruder. Yoochun didn’t wish to see Junsu like this, when he looked so vulnerable and fragile. When he looked as if he could break into pieces at any moment.
“No… no…” it was barely a whisper yet it managed to pierce through Yoochun’s mind.
What the hell had happened to this guy? Suddenly, Yoochun’s own problems seemed so irrelevant and even childish.
“Hey, just sit down for a moment, okay? Breathe in and breathe out. Calm down, I’m here with you, nothing will happen.” It was as if he was acting on instinct. Yoochun didn’t know what had gotten into his mind but he kept talking to the pale boy who looked like he could pass out any moment.
After what seemed like an eternity, Yoochun noticed that Junsu had slowly calmed down. “Are you okay now?” he asked, looking worried at his classmate.
“Yes… thank you so much for your help,” Junsu answered, lifting his face to look at Yoochun thankfully. To his relief, he saw that the look of hurt on Junsu’s face had disappeared. Yoochun couldn’t help but smile.
"Yoo-Yoochun-sshi," Junsu stuttered, looking shocked. The shock which was written over Junsu's face actually made Yoochun feel a little bit annoyed. Was he that scary? It wasn't as if he was going to eat him. He won't be that yummy anyways...
“You want something to drink or to eat? Maybe that'll help you,” Yoochun said, ignoring his annoyance. He started rummaging through his bag, intending to give away his lunch.
"No need! Really, I'm not that hung-," at the same moment Junsu's stomach started rumbling. Yoochun chuckled.
"Right, you're not hungry? Here, eat this," he said, handing over his lunch. Without hesitating, he seated himself next to his classmate on the sidewalk. He was late for school anyway.
"Th-thank you." Junsu said, accepting his defeat. Yoochun watched how the boy started eating. The first bites were hesitant but after a few minutes, Junsu's shoulders relaxed and he started taking bigger bites.
Relieved, Yoochun saw how the color returned to Junsu's cheeks.
"You feeling better now? I think it wouldn't be very smart to go to school now. Do you live in the neighborhood?" Yoochun asked and he stood up, stretching his body, searching his surroundings as if he was expecting to pick Junsu's house out between the other houses. Lost in his own thoughts, he missed the anxious look in Junsu's eyes.
"N-no, I suddenly feel a lot better. Let's go to school... because of me, you are too late for classes as well." Junsu stammered, his eyes swiftly looking everywhere but Yoochun's face.
"Doesn't matter, I was too late anyway. Are you sure you don't want to go home?" Yoochun pressed one more time. The behavior of his classmate seemed a little bit off... but he couldn't put his finger on it.
"Let's go to school." Junsu answered resolutely.

The whole day had been a hell for Junsu. Yoochun had kept a sharp eye on him all day long and even insisted to walk him back home when school was over. Junsu had refused his offer but Yoochun had insisted. "I know you might think this offer is weird since we don't know each other that well but how can I let you go back on your own when you've been looking faint and pale all day? I'm just trying to be realistic."
Junsu hadn't known how to answer and Yoochun had taken that as a agreement.
They had walked in silence.
"You know, my house is just around the corner. I don't want to burden you anymore, thanks for your help!" Junsu suddenly said, breaking the silence. Before Yoochun could give an answer, he waved and ran away as fast as he could.
After a few seconds, he dared to steal a glimpse behind him and saw that Yoochun hadn't followed him. A sigh of relief escaped from Junsu's lips as he continued to walk to his house. What would have happened if Yoochun had known where he lived? He would see the mess at home and if he had stayed, he might have even met his father. Junsu shivered. He didn't want that to happen.
When he entered his house and closed the door behind him, Junsu immediately noticed there was something wrong. He could hear the water of the shower running and the house smelled like smoke. A quick glance on the table and he noticed the many bottles of different alcohol. Soju, vodka, beer, everything was laid out on the table.
A voice in him was relieved he hadn't allowed Yoochun into his house. Another voice was telling him to get the hell outta here since this just couldn't mean any good. After debating with himself for a few minutes, he decided it would be better to leave now. Even though he had nowhere to go - Junsu wasn't a masochist. He had been beaten up today once and a second time was going to be even more painful than the first time.
Just when he spun around, his hand finding its way to the doorknob, he heard a cold voice behind him saying, "And where are you going?"
Junsu realized the water of the shower had stopped running a few minutes ago.
~
Junsu's strange behavior had made Yoochun even more curious. Why was his classmate so burned on not allowing anyone to know anything about his private life? No, more specifically: why was his classmate behaving so strange every time Yoochun brought up his house? Was it because he was poor and perhaps lived in a cardboard box? Or was it because of something else?
Yoochun watched how the fragile figure disappeared from his sight when he turned around the corner. Part of him wanted to go after him. The curiosity burned inside him but Yoochun realized he couldn't invade someone's privacy like that. He sighed and turned around, starting to find his way home.
Ah well, screw privacy.
Yoochun turned around and followed the same path Junsu had just walked. He could just see the boy disappearing around another corner and he hurried after him, trying to memorize the route so he wouldn't get lost when he would return. After a few more minutes, Yoochun saw how Junsu opened the door to an apartment complex. He frowned. So, the reason for his classmate's strange behavior wasn't because he was ashamed of his own house. At least he wasn't living in a cardboard box.
Yoochun approached the complex and looked at the small cards with the names of their habitants, searching for the surname 'Kim'. He sighed. Of course, this was just his luck - there were three Kim's living in the same building. This is what you get from being a meddler... He sighed in frustration but decided to go inside anyway since he couldn't suppress his curiosity.
While walking upstairs, he couldn't help but chuckle. What kind of idiot was he? He was stalking his classmate, invading Junsu's privacy. And he didn't even know where Junsu exactly lived. What would happen when Junsu would walk outside, taking the garbage out and then see Yoochun sneaking around? He chuckled. What was he doing?
Yoochun had decided to take the risk and just ring the doorbell of the house owner who was called 'J. Kim'. If it was Junsu who would open, he would just say that he... errr... had to go to the toilet. Yes, that would do.
The rational voice in him was telling him that what he was doing was bullshit. Yoochun had just confirmed that Junsu wasn't a poor student and it seemed like he was living quite a wealthy life as well. This seemed kind of childish.
Right, he should just go back home. Yoochun looked at the doorbell of the house where someone called 'J. Kim' was living and suddenly, he realized he should have listened to that rational voice all the time. He couldn't just ring someone's doorbell.
What if it was some stranger who opened the door? It would be quite embarrassing; all he could say was 'sorry, wrong house'.
He sighed. Just when he was about to turn around, he suddenly heard a muffled shriek. Yoochun's body froze. There were muffled sounds coming from behind the door. He heard heavy thumps against the door followed by screams of agony and pain. A low voice was screaming and Yoochun was able to make out different cuss words.
Yoochun could feel his heart thumping in his chest. His body was paralyzed. Was this Junsu's house?
