Sometimes, people are meant to meet each other. Their destinies are tied together, their fates meeting in certain points. From that point on, their fates start to intertwine with each other, getting tangled as time ticks by. Sometimes, people are meant to be for each other. Their whole life has been set out the moment they were created, their only goal to live their life. To live the fleeting moments of happiness, the fleeting moments of joy, the fleeting moments of freedom. The short moments which make life worth living. To live the moments of shame, the moments of desperation, the moments of heartbreak, the moments of separation. The moments where one comes to realize how cruel life can be.
Every second, there are people whose last moments on earth slip away, every second, there are people whose first moments on this earth begin. Some people, however, are destined to live their lives over and over again. Over and over. They will get the opportunity to make the same choices and their soul would want to chose the same thing over and over again. Their soul would make the right decisions again and again... but also the wrong decisions.
Their soul would leave their body, unsatisfied with the decision they had taken in this very life, and when asked if they are confident to repeat their lives again with their loved ones, they can have two choices. Yes or no.
Some tend to give up, to move on to the afterlife. Some want to correct their mistakes so badly that they'd agree.
One of these people is Kim Jaejoong. He had suffered in his life as one of the DBSK members, as one of the JYJ members. When he died, he regretted his decision that broke DBSK apart, he regretted the decision that casted him away from his loved ones. The decision that broke millions of hearts all over the world. The decision that would have so many consequences. Consequences he could have never imagined. So when the possibility to correct his regretful decisions was offered, he said 'yes'.
Kim Jaejoong was sure he'd be able to change his mistakes in his past life. He was sure he could live a life with his loved ones, a life where he wouldn't look regretfully back on his choices. A life where he would have faith in his decisions.
Even though he did not have the memories of his past life, something in him felt different when he met Yoochun for the first time. Jaejoong had been too young to realize this strange feeling but something in him felt warm. He could feel the inner connection immediately when he started talking with him, as if a missing puzzle piece fell into its place.
The first day he went to high school, he met Yunho. He was the same age as him and even though the boy looked distant, he turned out to be the warmest person Jaejoong would ever know. The same feeling he had felt when he met Yoochun for the first time overwhelmed him once again. A little smile painted Jaejoong's face as he looked at Yunho's strong face, his crooked teeth, his close set eyes, his jawline and his perfect nose. Little did Jaejoong know that this was a face he had been familiar with, a face he used to caress. Little did he know that Yunho was a person he used to embrace, a person he used to love.
When Yoochun introduced his boyfriend, Jaejoong had been astounded. He wouldn't love his friend less for being gay but it was a thought that was hard to swallow. However, Jaejoong already knew that time would heal everything. Junsu was a nice guy, someone who was easily bullied but who laughed happily when he saw the others enjoying themselves. He was a silly person but his good intentions were clear. Jaejoong accepted the boy and a part of his body started to glow, a familiar warmth spreading through his body.
It was not until Jaejoong turned 27 that he met Changmin. The silent man worked at the same office where Jaejoong worked. At first, there was nothing. The instant click he had felt when he had met his beloved ones from his old life wasn't there. However, Changmin opened up when he drank too much soju at a business trip. While Jaejoong carried the wasted Changmin to the hotel room, his arm wrapped protectively around the other's waist, feeling the warmth of the other's body, a faint smile appeared on his lips. It was a familiar and trusted feeling.
However, fate is something no one can control. Jaejoong was destined to fail again in this life. While the gleeful moments were inscripted in his mind, these moments would soon make place for the darkest moments of Jaejoong's life.
When the moment had come, Jaejoong and Changmin had argued. They wanted to marry, they wanted to love each other but their parents were against it. While Jaejoong was willing to sacrifice everything for his love, Changmin had decided against it. Changmin wanted to be able to see the faces of his parents, he wanted to be able to laugh with his sisters, he wanted to see the expressions on the faces of his grandparents... he wasn't willing to give up his family for his love.
Jaejoong had pushed. His parents didn't want him to marry Changmin either but he was willing to sacrifice everything, he was willing to give up his family for his love. He wanted to be able to love without any restraints. Everything had gone wrong from that moment on.
Yoochun and Junsu were on Jaejoong's side, they knew living with the one you loved would pay off. It was worth the sacrifice. Yunho, however, pushed Changmin. Family is family and blood is thicker than water. With the rejection of Changmin, Jaejoong cut all ties with Changmin. He wanted to forget the pain inflicted on his heart, the pain that he bore with the knowledge that he was willing to sacrifice more for their love than Changmin. The knowledge that he loved Changmin more than Changmin loved him.
The division was obvious from that moment on. Yoochun and Junsu supported Jaejoong while Yunho supported Changmin. Changmin's parents forbade him to ever see his old friends again and while he was hurt and angry because he had been forced to choose, Changmin obeyed his parents.
This was the choice that would ultimately distinguish them. While Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun were willing to prioritize their love above their family, Yunho and Changmin weren't able to turn their back to their family, to turn their back to the hand that had fed and had raised them. Family would always go first.
This was the choice that separated the deeply intertwined fates.
As time went by, Jaejoong was willing to forgive Changmin. He was willing to forget what had happened in the past, the deep wounds becoming light scars, because he knew he couldn't continue living on without Changmin, his adoring ex-boyfriend, and Yunho, a person who fit together with him perfectly, someone who understood every single thing Jaejoong did without asking.
When Changmin picked up the phone, Jaejoong couldn't find the right words to say. He wanted to say he forgave him, he wanted to say Changmin should come back to him, he wanted to apologize for forcing him to choose... there were so many things on Jaejoong's mind. Yet, the words died in his throat when he heard Changmin's voice.
"Ahh, hyung. I wanted to call you... I'm getting married... I was wondering if you wanted to come to my wedding."
The most awful thing about this all wasn't that Changmin had hidden his sexuality for the outside world nor that he pretended that he was bi nor that he did all this just to gain acceptation from his family... the worst thing was that the love of his life was getting married. Getting married. With someone who wasn't him.
Jaejoong didn't know he had made the same mistakes of his previous life again.
Only after he died, was he able to look back to his life, tears escaping his dry eyes when he realized his repeated mistakes. When asked if he wanted to live life again with his loved ones, Jaejoong hesitated for a moment.
He had suffered so much. His loved ones had suffered so much.
Yet...
He knew everything would be worth it. He prayed, prayed that this time he wouldn't make the same mistake again.
Because he knew that if he made the right decision... it would be worth living through the pain, it would be worth spilling tears, it would be worth going through all the hardships.
Because he knew that if he made the right decision... the happiness in his life would outdo the sadness. He knew it'd be worth it.
"Yes."
