“This is my side, and that’s yours.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s how it works, James.”
“No, why the line, Evan?”
“Because we need to stay separated.”
“Did you get into the cookie jar again?”
“No, that’s not the point.”
“Then what is the point?”
“You stay on that side of the line, and I’ll stay on mine.”
“You still haven’t explained the line.”
“I just did.”
“I meant why it’s needed.”
“It just is.”
“You have worse reasons that my mum.”
“Guh, fine. Dad doesn’t like me playing with you anymore.”
“Why not?”
“I dunno. I mean, you’re a pureblood like us.”
“Sadly, yes.”
“Oh.”
“Oh, what?”
“I think I know why.”
“Why?”
“You aren’t like other purebloods.”
“And that’s a bad thing?”
“I guess so.”
“This bites.”
“Tell me about it. You at least have Sirius still.”

“Your dad’s crazy.”

“Maybe if you talked to him…?”
“I’ll try it tonight.”
“Okay, let me know tomorrow what he says.”
