The evolution of Peter Petrelli

I'll start off by saying that I've been on this over-analyzing/severely over-logical kick lately and this is probably not going to make a lick of sense to anyone but me.

And now back to what I was going to say.

It was interesting to see the vast changes in his personality. I think out of everyone shown in that episode, he's the only one who was completely reinvented.

We start with this:

Happy-go-lucky Peter who lives only to help people and annoy his brother and while he's slightly emo at times (we think it's cause of the hair), he's generally a happy kid has nothing to complain about except that his daddy is was a bastard.

There's a time when he goes slightly angsty because this guy molests beats him up and steals his beerz.

Slightly kinky threatening fun with Claude.

But then he gets over it until 1x20 where we're five years in the future.

And then we get this:

Angsty, super broody, generally pissed off all the time at everyone, bitter, cold, impersonal, seemingly emotionless, recluse who doesn't really seem to give a damn about anything or anyone except for his stripper girlfriend who's up to her ears in angst as well.

And he watches the Matrix too much.

Seriously. He watches it way too much.

And then impersonates it because he's geeky cool like that.

Anyway back to my point, I get that exploding and killing like .07% of the world's population would do some serious damage to anyone's psyche and especially someone like Peter, who almost literally lives off the emotions of others.

It certainly explains why he went total emo and bitter and cynical and a million and a half other things that can be used to describe how he was in the future. (And yes, total badass is one of those things)

However, I think they took it a step too far.

By making Peter like he was, they totally forgot what makes Peter Peter. His empathy. (and yes, I already know the argument that they had very little time to address the characters and how to blow things out of proportion. I'm talking about the big picture that they were painting and didn't talk about).

True, Peter would go into a depression about killing seven million-ish people but from the very first episode, they've shown us that Peter's a doer. He actively pursues solutions, even if everyone else thinks he's insane. He lives to help people and by having Peter shut himself away in Las Vegas seemed a little too out there for me and hard to believe because of that.

I think that at the very center of his being, personality, whatever, Peter cares more about other people and what he can do for them then he does about himself and nothing's ever going to change that. It can't. He wouldn't be an empath without that caring. This is, of course, assuming that his personality is a direct reflection of his power, which seems to be case with everyone else on the show.

Anyway, if he does blow up like they keep saying he will no matter what he does, I can't honestly believe that he would cut himself off from the world or allow Nathan to do what he was doing to the other "special" people (even though it was Sylar but everyone thought it was Nathan, so whatever).

And yeah, he snapped out of it (to a degree) because of past!Hiro but it shouldn't have taken past!Hiro for Peter to take a stand. They're kind of negating his entire personality/being/existance/ability by making him so cold.

I'm done now. Here's some random pictures of Peter to offset the ranting.

Flowy hair!Peter.

Trenchcoat, staring off into the distance!Peter.

Peter and his sex buddy cranky British mate.

In other news, I watched Supernatural for the first time in forever. Be proud of me. Be very proud.
