Seriously. Our generation is doomed.

I know there are always going to be people in fields that don't belong there. But nursing has gone to a point that makes me want to rip someone apart. The classes...I wouldn't say are extremely hard so with some memorizing and studying, just about anyone can become a nurse. Yes. I said it ( Read more... )

"However, for one to truly be a nurse, you must care, and you must use common sense and judgement."

So true. (on a side note, same goes for teaching, though mistakes have time to be corrected by someone else, and takes years to actually show up. Yours can impact a live--several lives--immediately).

Nursing, it seems, is often seen as a high-paying, high-demand job. While many nurses (many of them on my friends page!) take their jobs extremely seriously, far too many saw it as a fast-track to a "easy" paycheck (wanna tell them how "easy" it is?).

I do know that with teachers...at least at the pre-college level...the ones who aren't cut out for it rarely lasts. Is that true for nursing as well? Will someone down the line eventually hire/unliscense her?

God, I hope that I never end up in her ER.

No. We have shitty seasoned nurses (there's a 20+ year nurse who runs the other way whenever a patient codes on my floor). And yes, there will always be someone willing to hire a shitty nurse. The problem with us is this. Unlike academics, nurses only critique each other to each other without actually voicing it out loud (if that makes sense). We complain and bitch about it but nothing is ever done because nobody wants to offend anyone. There's a saying in nursing that you should never burn a bridge because nursing is a small community and you never know who you'll end up working for in the future which holds very true.

The only way to unlicense a nurse is for her to really screw it up, kill someone, and get sued.

BTW, according to her preceptor, she was the "Token Orientee" so perfect and good. o.O Rumor has it her preceptor has a big head too though.

it seems like there'll be a lot of those types of nurses later on. I'm in classes with some of these people and they don't seem to see anything else besides the money. It frustrates me.

That sounds terrible, something to learn and expect, I guess. Some people need to stop thinking they're better than anyone and just do their frickin' job right!
