There was a time when I felt the same way you do, when someone asked me a favor - someone really close or not for that matter - and i couldn't help i felt so "helpless" & it would pain me a lot that I couldn't do anything but then it hit me one day that kil shay bi2radat Allah and we "are" helpless and that is when iltaja2t bil do3aa, il do3aa for someone without them knowing is mostajaab :D Inshallah you can help the person this way...
