Disappointment and time to just let go

Mar 08, 2011 12:14

I would just like to congratulate these people for their outstanding generosity in doing absolutely nothing...it was really great of you guys to offer yourselves up for charity auctions and then as soon as my donations were made you all stopped talking to me. Way to go on your civic spirit! I don't even feel bad about outing you. Perhaps if you had ( Read more... )

That is amazingly sucky and full of fail. I've had trouble fulfilling some charity stories in the past, but i have *always* done it in the end and have always tried my best to be timely about it.

To simply abandon fics they promised to write and then to go on and sign up for more....

Just a totally crummy thing to do.

Honestly, I don't know which would be worse, them signing up again and fulfilling the next person's goodie, or signing up again and failing the next person as well :{

Wow! That's really awful. I'm sorry that happened to you so many times. It seems they should be reported to the mod, and banned from participating if they can't fulfill their obligations. They certainly shouldn't be able to sign up to do more, not if they have out-standing ones to complete. Maybe the mod will see this, maybe not as there seems to be some technical glitches going on. You might want to PM her directly.

I was just coming over here for the first time today, trying to decide if I want to offer my stories to help raise money, so I don't know a lot about how things work over here, but there must be some sort of policy in place for people who are left disappointed, as you have been. Good luck with whatever other steps you may take.

I'm not sure if the mod checks here, I assume she does tho?
I'm also pretty sure there was a rule that you couldn't sign up if you had an outstanding goodie but they did it anyway :(

Oh, there was a policy, the pinch-hit list was meant to provide for people who had been let down by their tarts, but now the pinch-hit list is gone *sigh*

Thank you for commenting, every little bit of support is apprecited.

I'm really impressed that you worked up the courage to make this post. People should be held accountable to their obligations, or they should be called on the carpet when they've defaulted with no explanation or apology .

I thought about offering to pinch-hit for you, but when I looked at your user page I couldn't find any pairings I'm really familiar with. I used to watch SV, but am not really familiar with Bart (I wrote on Clark/Bart for a friend's b-day, but it was short and low on plot as Bart isn't a character I'm comfortable with), and I know the Winchesters, but don't know the characters you had them paired with.

Well, anyway, I hope you have better luck in the future.

I'm still amazed I managed to write it, usually I'm such a wuss about things like this, probably why it kept happening *facepalm*

I haven't watched SPN in years so that's not a pairing I ask for anymore, my OTP list is pretty much all I ever ask for (usually only the first few on the list)

But thank you so much for your support *hug* I can't believe how great everyone has been.

You're not alone. I also think it's great of you to "out" these people, if only to possibly spare someone else the disappointment, and thus stop the risk of them losing interest in the entire process all together, which has half-way happened to me.

I, personally, no longer bid in fan-auctions (though I am more than willing to offer), and I generally have a strong warning for anyone that asks me if I think they should bid on a work. I don't like giving a bad name to the entire charity but, the sad truth is, I also don't want to lie to people and tell them there's a good chance they'll get their stuff when my experiences make me doubt it. (I have never received ANY of the works I've bid on.)

Instead, I just directly donate to places & recommend others do the same. I find it saves people from frustration and disappointment.

P.S. One of the people who was suppose to write me a fic was a *moderator* of one of the "help" communities & also continues to put up offerings on all kinds of other fan-auctions. It kind of disgusts me.

OMG...you never got anything!? :(
That awful *hugs you tight* I mean, at least I got a few things (not a great track record but still, something) :(

It disgusts me also when they don't fulfill an obligation yet continue to offer their services, it makes you wonder how many people they've disappointed, or if it was just something about us in particular *sigh*

I'm really sorry to hear that you have stopped bidding, but I can oh so understand why *more hugs*

*Hugs you back*

Yeah, I always wondered if it was because they don't fulfill their obligations in general, or if it was because I asked for pairings too rare & they couldn't get their writing mojo going. *Sigh*

Oh wellz~
