I was there as part of the National Model United Nations (AKA I'm a gigantic nerd) so I only got to see the sights breifly. But some things that I would recommend:
Central Park The Metropolitan Museum of Art Wall Street China Town (<---- if you do anything, China Town is a fucking blast!) Broadway (Go to a good show obviously. I only say this because I went to a really bad show, and I wish I could get those two hours back) The United Nations Building (I don't know if after 9/11 they stopped letting people in, but if they have it how they did when I was there it's really really cool. If it is at all possible you should see the Great Hall.) Also I would try to get in to a taping of Conan, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show or Letterman.
i plan on almost everything else, maybe not the met. mus. of art. depends on time. how long would be good to spend there? maybe not the UN building, though Michael would probably like it. again, depends on time.
i've thought about going to show tapings. will look into it.
