We've been talking about installing another lock higher up on the front door so that Leif can't reach it and get out.

Oh my god, you must have been terrified. :(

Please try not to beat yourself up. This happens to parents all the time. How were you to know this would happen? It's not like you saw the future and decided against getting the lock.

A few years ago my dad left hot coal ash on the ground and Simon picked it up, thinking it was sand, and burned his hand very badly. Of course my dad felt terrible (and still does), but Simon is okay. My dad is just super careful about where he disposes of things now. And now you'll know to always follow that initial feeling of "should we do this?".

I can't get over the feeling that I failed him. It's my job to keep him safe and I completely failed to do it. I could just as easily be posting right now in a panic because he was missing, or worse...

UGH I've got to get it together before Mila wakes up!

Thanks so much, Dana. It means a lot.

I know nothing I say will make you feel better because Mom Guilt is a terrible thing. But I don't think you failed him, if that matters. *more hugs*
