Jim asked me this question yesterday and I am not sure I can answer it. I felt like I needed to draw a flow chart (which a geekily started to do in Word and then realized it would take forever so I drew it on paper).

I was trying to explain to someone the difficulties I am having with my new employer's inflexible work at home policy (full-time at home, full-time at work, or designate in advance in perpetuity the days you want to work at home, with no allowance for my situation: "I need to be live with the US in the mornings so I'll come in late afternoon every day"). He said, "Wouldn't it be easier if you just worked at home full time?" I replied that if I did, someday I was likely to be waiting for Stephen with a butcher knife or something. Being at home all the time with no natural socializing is a challenge that I do not want to try to undertake so I admire you for trying.
