Socializing: Unemployment has required me to think about things I didn't have to before. I am a fucking social butterfly. My friends worked in my office (one of them literally IN my office space) so socializing was not something where I had to exert effort. Go to work, friends. Have lunch, friends. Want to chat, come into my office. And these friends still work! Jerks.

I was trying to explain to someone the difficulties I am having with my new employer's inflexible work at home policy (full-time at home, full-time at work, or designate in advance in perpetuity the days you want to work at home, with no allowance for my situation: "I need to be live with the US in the mornings so I'll come in late afternoon every day"). He said, "Wouldn't it be easier if you just worked at home full time?" I replied that if I did, someday I was likely to be waiting for Stephen with a butcher knife or something. Being at home all the time with no natural socializing is a challenge that I do not want to try to undertake so I admire you for trying.
