1. Take deep breath. 2. Think about it again from a different perspective. It sounds to me like your mom might just be a little jealous that you get along so well with your dad and were chatting with him, and just didn't know a better way to get into the convo. 3. Talk to them about it. Chances are, your beau thought he was being cute and funny, and it didn't occur to him that you might not appreciate the comment. If you let him know, gently, that it made you uncomfortable, it gives him the option of doing something about it. 4. Have chocolate and play with the pups. That makes everybody feel better. :)
#4 is duly noted - however no chocolate to be found in the house. Beer? How about beer? Nope, that does not good either since I've been really good about my triathlon training. Kashi... does Kashi count? Just kidding. A trip to the store is in order.
I think you are very very right with point #2 - she and I have never really been close and I know she gets jealous of how easily Dad and I get along. And she doesn't realize yet that these comments are what push me away and make my coming around such a rarity.
Dan could tell something was wrong as soon as we were heading to the car. When he asked I told him pretty frankly that I feel that all he was doing was ripping on me/tearing me down. He did respond that he was joking and he seemed pretty surprised at how I took it. So we'll see how things go in the near future. Hopefully it's not a pattern that repeats.
