So I thought something was wrong with the brakes on my car, they were making a strange grinding sound, and my car shook a little when I slowed down. I didn't think much of it, then my mom drove my car and she suggested I should get them look at. So $286 later I have all new brakes and rotors (whatever those are). Yeah, when your brakes start grinding like that, the brake pads are basically gone and you're grinding up your rotors (which I think are like the metal part beneith the brake pads). I learned that the hard way with my very first car...
