Aaaaaannnnd… we’re back, baby!

This week’s episode of Vampire Diaries reminds me that I should never lose faith in this show, and that Kevin Williamson continues to reign supreme as the Master of Scream.

Long ramblings are long... )

Here, more clearly than we’ve ever been shown, it is made obvious that DAMON IS A GOOD MAN. Regardless of how hard he fights it (and good Lord does he fight it), it is his basic nature and he’ll never escape it. If tonight’s episode proved anything to me, it’s that Damon truly is the one on the hero’s journey. To me, this entire series is no longer about a human girl and her love for two vampire brothers. This show is about DAMON and his journey to reclaim his humanity. Of course, his epic love story with Elena still plays a major part. But Damon’s journey is the impetus that drives the entire show. I only hope that, in the end, Damon’s redemption will be everything he truly deserves it to be. Yes. Damon has been the driving force of one kind or another since the beginning of the series (he'd pushing the tomb storyline, but he's also one of the main forces pushing honesty toward the S/E relationship by letting Elena know about selective truths in Stefan and Damon's past re: Katherine). He's the active, evolving character ( ... )

LOL, I laugh when people complain that this is the "Damon Show". I'm like, "Yeah... so?"

And you're right. Damon's story has always been about so much more than just him and Elena... he's always been integral to the core SLs of the series. I hate it when the Damon haters are like, "You just like him because he's hot." I feel like beating my head against a wall and shouting, "Are we watching the same show?!" The journey towards redemption is one of the most compelling in all of literature, and I'm so glad my favorite character is on it.

And thanks so much for friending me! I'll friend you back. ^_^

Indeed! And while Damon has always been hot, when I started watching the show, he was creepy and scary (I just picked the show up during the winter break), but his layers soon became obvious and the show was obviously into exploring them. He's conflicted and damaged, but he's on a redemptive hero journey in a way that Stefan, much as I do like him, really isn't.

(regarding Stefan, I had to laugh in this episode when Alaric was realizing that Stefan could not care less about Rose's impending death. Where exactly was Stefan's much bragged-about empathy?)

I started watching TVD around when Bloodlines first aired, so I was kind of shocked and horrified when I went back and watched the very first episodes and realized what an awful dick Damon was. I'm still pissed about how he treated Caroline. And you're right, he may have been hot... but waaaay creepy.

Re:Stefan... LOL, I know right? Well, he did tell Caroline as a human he felt guilt if he caused others pain, and as a vampire that was amplified. So maybe he just doesn't give a shit if he's not the one causing the pain. ^_^

This.

THIS IS DAMON - yes, he’s drunker than we’ve ever seen him, but he’s also more honest. Who would’ve thought a year and a half ago, watching Damon taunt his little brother about embracing humanity, that his deepest darkest secret was that it’s what he covets more than anything else in the whole world? And the best part is that it makes so much sense. Damon never asked for eternity… only love. The thing he rejected is forced upon him, while the thing he seeks so desperately constantly eludes him.

THIS. THIS. THIS.

As butterfly said, his character is the one that is evolving and changing. Stefan is pretty much still the same guy he was at the beginning of the show. Sure, he's changed a little bit, but not to the extent that Damon has ( ... )

It's not going to happen. As much as I would love for it to happen, it just won't. The Academy (or whatever it's called) just can't get past the CW. He could totally get a Golden Globe nod though.

Ahhh, if only we lived in a fair world where things like merit and actual talent counted. *sighs* Golden Globes are good, though. As long as he gets recognized. Somerhalder's gonna have an amazing career one way or another.

As for the rest of the episode. I don't like Jules. Not even fond of the actress playing her. She was ok in some parts (I liked the whole "Bite me" line) and not so much in others.

Yeah, Jules needs to go die. I will say that I liked her delivery of the "Bite me" line a lot more than Caroline's "You suck". This one seemed a lot less cheesy.

Stefan was a total douchebag to Ric. I wanted to bitch slap him for his "you're doing his dirty work" comment.Stefan seems like such a schizophrenic character sometimes, and not in a Damon way. Whereas I can usually understand the underlying motives behind Damon's outward ( ... )

Are you in my head? Seriously. I agree with nearly every word of this. I still can't even think about that final scene without tearing up. SO GOOD.

Hi Jessica *waves* Sorry, I didn't know your real name before :)

Delena MUST be endgame. There is no alternative. No two other characters can read each other so well and so easily pierce each other’s defenses. Regardless of how he deflects and misdirects, Elena will never give up on him. Despite the fact that she may have stopped fighting for herself, Damon will never give up fighting for her. These two are the definition of soul mates. I love how easily she says that they’re friends again, like nothing in the past matters (even if it still does), and he isn’t surprised by it because he already knows.

THIS so much. You worded it perfectly and I couldn't agree more. This show is epic all over but I've never loved a character as much as Damon. I mean, who gets you to love him even more after he killed someone *g*

I didn't even realize Bonnie wasn't in this episode until after I read your comment about it. Ooops?!
