Honestly it's up to you, but at this point, it might just be nice to have the labour induced. I think the pros far outweigh the cons, and even with the possible link to autism, your baby has been healthy up until now. If you're already 4cm dilated, you haven't got that far to go!
I'm sort of thinking the same thing. I hear the toughest/longest part of induction is getting from 1-4cm and since I'm already there, I'm hoping the rest progresses just as easily. But you never know. This just isn't the road I planned on taking and haven't even really considered it until now... *sigh*
The only person who can give you sound advice on this is your doctor, so if you considering this you need to bring it up so that they can give you the pro's and con's. With regards to your concerns: Forget about the worries about autism, there is no actual hard evidence regarding this.
If you're baby is 38 weeks it's "well done" and going too much over-term is actually not good for the baby either. In the UK they currently book you for induction when you go 2 weeks over term.
If it's your first child you are likely to have some hours to go from when the water breaks. Precipitate labour is rare, particular in prima-paras.
So, raise your concerns with O&G and then you and your hubby can make your decision based on their advice.
You're right, I'm going to have to have a long talk with my doctor about this tomorrow. She will obviously know best. I was just hoping for some opinions before I even brought it up.
Can you find a friend to stay with you? Someone who could do the driving, etc. if it was necessary? Maybe even a neighbor would be willing to be "on-call" for you... Still, like others suggested, talk to your doctor tomorrow and see what that suggestion is.
