This might possibly be different from what you expected, but I saw this prompt and I had to. This is awfully personal and important to me. Hope you enjoy it anyway.

Come Away With Me

If somebody asks her how she is doing, Diane thinks, she'll burst out laughing. Maybe. Probably not, she adds to that train of thoughts. Most likely Diane will smile politely and tell the person that she was fine. It's easier that way. It's always been easier that way. What would she tell them anyway? What I expected? Not necessarily... but isn't that the beauty of this sort of thing; expecting one thing but receiving something somewhat different that is just as good or, as in this case, even better?

I adored this. Diane is my favorite character and I love it when people get into her head. Even beyond that, I especially love when the focus is on reflection and her regrets and/or acceptance of past choices. It's always so interesting to see everyone's different takes on her inner thoughts which, of course, are certainly impacted by an individual's personal experiences.

As for the big picture, this is so beautifully written and you have my heart breaking for her... but in a good way, of course.

Thanks so very much for writing this, I really appreciate it and the outcome was brilliant.
P.S. Sorry for taking so long to reply!

This is a really beautiful fic and a (too) rare look into Diane's thoughts. Thanks so much.
