Infinite and Terrible (Alicia/Kalinda, 1/2)sweetjamieleeFebruary 28 2012, 01:12:52 UTC
A/N: In under the wire! Sort-of spoilers for 3x15.It hadn’t taken long for Kalinda to realize she had a talent in sensing danger for Alicia Florrick - she could smell blood in those waters from the minute a drop was shed. And it was in Kalinda’s best professional interest to use those keen senses to help her; Alicia was like a new colt in the courtroom in those early days, reborn onto shaky legs. Support inspires loyalty

Cool professionalism isn’t a chore with anyone else, but with Alicia it’s exhausting. Kalinda remembers the warm victories of making her smile. Remembers the vague surprise of finding herself smiling back, having made no conscious decision to do so. She’s not a person who dwells in the past, but the nostalgia itches under her skin, unwanted and uncalled for, while she tries to focus on the matter at hand. Alicia sits across from her at the dining room table; there’s a file between them that she was never supposed to see. It’s the elephant in the room now, and Kalinda doesn’t want Alicia to have to deal with it - with her, who she is and who she once was

Squee, I like this! I giggled HARD at the Lana scenario--poor, poor Lana, though she'd totally get it. And poor Kalinda. So damaaged. ::pets::
whatever goes on inside Alicia seems a mystery these days, and it would be so much easier to turn a blind eye.
So. True. I think it's a mystery even to Alicia herself. But I also thnk this would totally bother Kalinda. "She used to be so predictable!"
Alicia’s eyes betray very little, but what she says is: “For old time’s sake.” There used to be bitterness in her voice, but now it mostly just sounds tired. It’s really the first time Alicia’s given any indication there is anything about those old times that she might miss, too. A small revelation, but behind Kalinda’s mask of careful calmness, her eyes sting and her throat dries.
Awwwww, Alicia! Missing Kalinda! And emotional Kalinda!!!!!
Kalinda is not -- she’s never been. Not for Alicia. Every day is like being blindsided.
This is like the perfect encapsulation of their relationship. Seriously.

THEY'RE BOTH SO DAMAGED, I can't even stand it. D: D: I need them to fiiiix each other (or, you know, at least be damaged TOGETHER).
Also, I have a mild obsession with Kalinda interrupting her own sexyteimz in order to help Alicia with something, mostly because I can see it so easily happening in canon -- and it would be so, so telling. Make it so, Kings.
Thank you for reading and commenting on my last-minute tales of Kalinda!pining!

I--really think you need to write this. And Alicia KNOWING. And getting jealous!!!!

This is just phenomenal. It's an easy thing to write about big, crude swathes of emotion--the sobbing and hugging and screaming. It's an infinitely more difficult thing to do what you've done: depict the seemingly small emotions that are actually deep and smoldering below that apparent surface. There's so much intensity here. You've also managed to capture Alicia, even through Kalinda's point of view (and these days, figuring out Alicia's emotional state is the holy grail). Trying to show Alicia as she is right now in the show, just on the brink of being able to *consider* letting Kalinda back into her life, just on the edge of being able to show some kindness and compassion, is an extremely ambitious thing to attempt, and you've succeeded with it. Wonderful job!
Your writing is also great all the way through. I particularly loved these lines:
And it was in Kalinda’s best professional interest to use those keen senses to help her; Alicia was like a new colt in the courtroom in those early days, reborn onto shaky legs

OH STOP, YOU IZ MAKING ME BLUSH.
...okay, don't stop. I like it.
Man, what can I say. I am a SUCKER for Kalinda's helpless, hopeless devotion and pining -- and conversely, for Alicia's tipping point of being able to accept any part of it. I want to write about it in a thousand different ways. Next stop: THE ELEVATOR.
Thank you for your lovely comments and support -- it feels great to get back to these two.:)
I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR.threeguessesMarch 1 2012, 21:42:20 UTC
Oh god, it should happen like this. It should happen JUST LIKE THIS, so Archie could throw all her FACE at the camera and we could all make high-pitched noises and afterwards everyone would skip off into the sunset and it would be beautiful.
I love the way you write Kalinda SO MUCH, J, and all her hatred of ~feelings~ and how she's so angry with the inevitability of it all, but still oddly resigned. Like she just knows now, that she's always going to love Alicia like this. She's never been. Not for Alicia. Every day is like being blindsided. BUT SHE'S RESIGNED TO THE BLINDSIDING, OH KALINDA, MY HEART.
And yes, I agree, I have a large thing for Kalinda interrupting her exploits with other people to run to Alicia. Like. This feels like it should have been canon? Way back in the first season, while she was screwing the greasy cop and Lana and apparently Donna--SHOULD. HAVE. HAPPENED. The Kings could have played it off as amusing instead of One True Love, but WE WOULD HAVE KNOWN.

Sometimes I feel I ship Kalinda/unwanted FEEEELINGS as much as I ship Alicia/Kalinda, Rachel. It is obviously the fault of Archie and her face.
Also, in my head Kalinda's *dates* have been interrupted at LEAST a dozen times by various things Alicia needs. "As much as I'm enjoying this impending orgasm, it has come to my attention that Alicia Florrick currently requires a mocha latte, so. We'll reconvene later, y/y?" Oh epic love, how INCONVENIENT you are.
Thanks for the comment and the prompt, bb. I still love writing them, really and truly. Can't wait until we're back on the happy train, here.

Gah, I love this so hard!
Kalinda understood the sentiment, but… that call could have been important.
(It wasn’t. Alicia just wanted to vent about Cary’s vengeful little games in his new position working with Childs, she didn’t need Kalinda’s help. Kalinda listened to her for ten minutes anyway.) This? Is true love, my friends. (Except for the sleeping with someone else part, but you know what I mean. :p)
Sometimes it feels like her very chemistry has been changed; poetry woven through strands of DNA. This is incredibly beautiful. Just...wow. Love it.
Kalinda is not -- she’s never been. Not for Alicia. Every day is like being blindsided. Oh, Kalinda. Alicia yanks her right out of your comfort zone but she can't even help yourself. And what's more...she doesn't even really WANT to help herself. WHY ARE THEY SO TRAGIC AND PRETTY AND COMPLICATED.
Wonderful, wonderful job, as usual. If canon gets anywhere close to this I will be able die happy.

Awhs, I'm glad you liked it, babe, thanks so much for reading/commenting. These two are so hard -- because so much of their relationship is reflected through INTERNAL stuff that we get through looks, body language, context. It makes them great fic fodder in some ways, but it also requires a deep read that you're always aware might or might not be right. So I am pleased this worked for you.
And pfft, half of their true love is communicated right now through surrogate sleeping with other people. I HAVE A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO THIS.
