EMG/nerve conduction...

Mar 07, 2006 01:31

Hi everyone! It's me again. :)

Just realized that I have an EMG/nerve conduction test scheduled for tomorrow at my neurologists office. I'm kind of scared, as I've heard it can be painful. Anyone here been through it before? What can I expect? My appt. is at 1:15pm Pacific.

Thanks...

Of course, if there's a medical test known to man, I've had it. So yeah, I've had an EMG. Honestly, it's not that bad. They mostly do it with electrodes (like those for an EKG) that they stick on your limbs. Then they conect them to the "voltage" machine (I don't know what it's called). They start sending tiny shocks that don't feel like much, and measure how the muscles contract or respond. At one point it does get uncomfortable, when the shock gets bigger, and then it feels like when the doctor tests your reflexes. Your limbs "jump". Honestly, it's not too bad, but afterwards, I remember feeling exhausted and sore, like I'd just had a massive workout.

Email me if you want to know more!

The PP gave a good description, so I'll just add that when I went through my MS testing a few years back, I had an EMG too. I thought it hurt, but you've dealt with WAY worse pain, so you'll probably just think it's irritating.

Thinking of you.....

I'm not familiar with this test, but I wanted to pop in and wish you luck anyway :-) Hope it goes well and it's painless!
