Title: The Wedding Plan
Pairing: Sakuraiba, slight Ohmiya
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Nino, Aiba's best friend was getting married. Being a professional event planner, Aiba decided to take a month off to help his best friend with his wedding.
The following days of the wedding preparation turned out not too bad. Aiba was mostly in charge because he is a professional at this anyway. But it’s only “mostly” though because a certain someone constantly tries to butt in whenever he can. That certain someone is no other than Sakurai Sho. Aiba has to admit that Sakurai is really smart and funny. He’s a lawyer anyway. Soon, everyone was in love with him and his suggestions. Everyone, except for one person, Aiba himself. Even though he had a slight “crush” on the man (yep, Aiba decided to admit that he kinda liked Sho a little more than a friend in the beginning), his arrogance totally threw Aiba off. He never likes people who are over confident about themselves, and he especially hates anyone who looks down on his work.
Aiba and Sakurai have completely opposite opinions about the wedding. Aiba wants it to be the most luxurious and glamorous event for the Ohmiya couple, while Sho insists on keeping it simple and quiet. Aiba wants to put his personal touch on as many things as possible, making almost everything himself; while Sho decides they should just order everything for the wedding. Not only different in opinions, Sakurai’s attitude drives Aiba insane. Whenever Sakurai sees Aiba making the wedding invitations or putting together the decorations for the wedding from scratch, he would laugh at him and tell him that it would be much faster if they could order the stuff from somewhere.
“You know, Aiba-san. We’re living in the 21st century. They can make anything you want at a lightning speed! You don’t have to do all those things by yourself! Not to mention it’s going to take you forever. When will we be ready for the wedding if you keep on making everything by yourself? I thought you were a pro at this…”
“Sakurai-san, first of all, this is not unprofessional. It is quite common in our field to personalize things like this. Secondly, you don’t understand the meaning of marriage and wedding, right? This is the most meaningful day in Nino and Ohno-san’s lives. I want to put my heart into making this day memorable for both of them. If you just order the stuff and have someone else make them for you, how can it be as special as making them while putting your best wishes for the couple into everything? “
“Haiz, you’re really emotional, ne~! I don’t think it’s that important anyway. But if you want to make them yourself, go ahead. I won’t help you though. I don’t want to waste my time.”
Aiba couldn’t help but felt a little angry at Sakurai. He’s so arrogant! And he doesn’t understand anything! I can’t believe I liked him before!
*******
It was after three in the morning and Sakurai was heading back to the hotel. He went to a bar with his friends for a few drinks after the wedding preparation. The whole planning thing wasn’t bad at all, except for one particular person: Aiba Masaki.
He’s sooo annoying! Why does he think so highly about marriage anyway? I feel bad for Ohmiya for losing their freedom. Who cares about “til’ death do us apart” when I can meet and fall in love with anyone I want... I just can’t get him at all.
Sho was about to get into the elevator when he noticed the lights coming from the ballroom of the hotel. Being curious because it was very late at night and someone was still awake, Sakurai decided to walk into the ballroom to find out who that was.
Right in the middle of the huge gorgeous room sat the “annoying” Aiba. He didn’t seem to notice Sho’s presence though because the younger guy was focusing on making the wedding invitations.
“Hey, what are you doing awake at this time? You should be in bed by now!” Sakurai was surprised to realize the slight worry in his voice, but he decided to push it aside.
“Oh…. Sakurai-san! You scared me! You should’ve knocked or something… I’m finishing the invitations for the wedding. I’m half way through it already. Ohmiya want to invited the whole country to their wedding... And besides, I still have tons of other decorations to make, so I decided to stay up to finish them up… Did you just get back from the bar? Are you drunk?”
“Oh, I see… Yes, I just got back, but we didn’t drink much though, so I’m not drunk at all. You should go to bed now. Don’t work yourself out. You might get sick...” Feeling his cheeks getting warmer for realizing his worry for Aiba, Sho quickly turned around before adding one last sentence “Not that I’m worried about you, but I’m sure we have enough things to take care of for the wedding.”
Just when I thought he was being nice….
“Hai, hai, I know. Don’t worry about that. My imagination is not that wild…” Aiba said, rolling his eyes. “And I’m not a girl! I don’t get sick that easily!”
It turned out that Sho was right when he said Aiba might get sick. Two days after their conversation, Aiba fainted while they were working on the wedding menu. Luckily, Sho was reacting fast. He immediately called the ambulance and got Aiba straight to the hospital.
“Nagama-sensei, is he OK? What happened? Why did he faint? Is he in danger now?” Sho asked, not caring about hiding his worry anymore.
“Sakurai-san, you need to calm down first… Aiba-san fainted due to the constant lack of sleep and nutrition. After the examination, it seemed to me that he hadn’t eaten or slept for at least three days. Normally, it would not be too dangerous, but Aiba-san’s body is not very strong, plus he had a lung surgery before, so we’re not sure how long it would take for him to recover from this. For now, it is extremely important to make sure that he eats and sleeps enough. And please try not to let him work much. His condition is very weak right now. You can come and visit him, but don’t let too many people in the room. He needs a lot of rest.”
“I understand. Thank you, sensei.” Sakurai said, before leaving the doctor’s office to go to the room where Aiba was staying. He always thought Aiba was annoying and troublesome, but when he saw Aiba laying on the bed emotionless, a rush of sadness suddenly overwhelmed Sho.
Why did you work so hard, Aiba? You knew no one would help, but you still did it… Is marriage really that special to you?
A slight movement from Aiba pulled Sakurai from his thought.
“Aiba-san, are you awake? Are you hurt anywhere?” Sakurai asked, trying to be as gentle as he could. “Do you need to drink some water?”
It took Aiba a while to fully open his eyes and understand what was going on. Realizing he was in the hospital and recalling how he fainted in the middle of the preparation made Aiba feel extremely guilty.
“Sakurai-san, you were right… I’m so useless! I can’t even take care of myself…” Aiba sniffed while looking at Sho with his teary eyes “Ne~, please don’t tell Kazu-chan about this. He would be so worried…. Onegai, Sakurai-san!”
In other situations, Sho was 100% certain that he would say “I told you so!” but with Aiba being extremely vulnerable in front of him, plus his doe-like eyes looking at him so intensely, he felt the sudden pain in his chest. What is the weird feeling I’m experiencing right now…
“Aiba-san, please don’t be too emotional. Everything will be fine. It’s not your fault. If there’s anyone to blame in this, it should be me. I should have helped you instead of letting you overwork yourself like that.” Sho said, trying to be as gentle as possible. “I’m sorry I was being such a jerk to you.”
“Wow, what makes you change so fast? You were totally different to me yesterday…. Ah, anyway, do you think I can get out of the hospital now? I need to finish the decorations before tomorrow. We don’t have much time left until the wedding…”
“No, you are not going anywhere. You need to rest, so don’t worry about the wedding for now…”
“But…”
“No buts…. I will make them for you, OK? Please just rest… You can count on me for this.” Sho didn’t know what made him say those things, but he just felt a sudden rush to make sure that the younger guy will be getting enough rest. I guess it doesn’t hurt to help…
“Haha, Sakurai-san!!! You are so nice! But are you sure about that? I mean I think I’m good enough now to get back to work…”
“Yes, I am sure, Aiba-kun. Now, stay still, will you? I will get you some water to drink…”
“Ne~, Sakurai-san… Can I ask you something?”
“What is it? Please don’t tell me you’ve come up with something else to do for the wedding. Just don’t think about the wedding for the next couple of days. We still have time, you know…”
“No, it’s not about that… what I wanted to ask… was…. Can I…. call you… Sho-chan? I’ve wanted to call you that since the beginning, but you always seemed so distant from me, so I didn’t have enough courage. But Sho-chan just now was so nice and gentle… that’s why I wanted to…” Aiba kept on mumbling while his cheeks started getting warmer, without noticing the other one also suffered from major redness. “Ah, it’s fine. Forget about it…. I’m just being random, ne~…”
“Ah…. Actually…. I… I… don’t mind, so if you…. want to…. you can… call me like…. that”
“Yatta!!!! Jaa, I will call you Sho-chan from now on then!!!” Aiba grinned happily, his eyes beaming with happiness. He doesn’t really understand why it matters so much, but being able to call Sakurai in an intimate way like that made him extremely happy.
Sakurai couldn’t help grinning either. Suddenly he realized how innocent and pretty the guy in front of him is. He’s never seen Aiba smiling that happily before and the sunshine smile totally overtook him. I never thought a smile can make me this happy.
“Ok, Aiba-chan, you should rest now. I will go prepare for the wedding.”
“Hai!” Aiba said cheerfully, making Sho’s heart skip a beat. Soooo cute!!!
