Title: The Wedding Plan
Pairing: Sakuraiba, slight Ohmiya
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Nino, Aiba's best friend was getting married. Being a professional event planner, Aiba decided to take a month off to help his best friend with his wedding.
“Tell me, SAKURAI!!! How the heck did Aiba-chan end up in the hospital?”
Nino’s furious voice made Sakurai almost jump out of the seat. He’s never seen Nino this angry before and if looks can kill, he’s certain that he would be dead by now.
“Calm down, Nino-kun…. He’s fine now. How did you hear about Aiba being in the hospital anyway?”
“What do you mean “calm down”? Obviously you don’t care about him, but it’s fine! I can’t control your feelings…. But I care about him! How could you let that happen? Are you even human? Do you know that Aiba-chan cares for everyone, except for himself?”
The angry Nino now suddenly became so small in front of Sakurai as he broke down on the floor and started weeping.
“He’s the nicest person you could ever meet on Earth… He always smiles even though sometimes that’s not how he feels inside. ‘Everyone has enough things to worry about; I shouldn’t make them worry about me as well’, that’s what he said. When we were in high school, I was always picked on because I was smaller than the other kids, and he would stand up for me every time. Aiba-chan was really popular, you know. He played baseball, and girls chased him like crazy. But he didn’t care about those things at all. He knew hanging out with me would cost him all that popularity, but he never complaint. He always told me how lucky he was to have me as his friend…”
Nino paused for a moment to hold the tears that were brimming in his eyes before continued, “He tries to take care of everyone, but he’s not strong himself… He’s had lung surgeries twice. Every now and then, he would overwork and get sick, but he never complains or tells anyone. I had to tell the doctor to let me know whenever he’s in the hospital. He told you to not tell me, right?”
Nino stopped and looked at Sakurai, waiting for an answer. The anger Sho saw just now had vanished, but he could feel the sadness in those eyes. Sho gave him a slight nod, before turning away to avoid the sad eyes.
“Luckily, this time, the doctor knows both of us since we were little so he let me know. Sakurai-san, I know you guys don’t want to worry me and Satoshi, but this is my best friend! If anything bad happened to him… I would never forgive myself…”
“Ninomiya-san, please calm down. He’s really fine now. He should be able to get out of the hospital in a couple of days. I will make sure he gets plenty of rest and food.”
I never knew those things about him… Nino’s right. I should’ve taken better care of him. I will from now on though.
“Ok, I’ll leave Aiba-chan to you then. If something bad happens again, I won’t leave you alone.” Nino turned around to leave, not forgetting to shoot Sakurai the ‘I-can-kill-you-if-I-want’ look.
How can Aiba-chan have this person as his best friend…?
************
“Wow! Sugoi, Sho-chan! These are so cute! You should’ve helped me way earlier! You have talent, you know…” Aiba flashed Sho the brightest smile when he saw the wedding decorations that he made during the time Aiba stayed in the hospital. He didn’t expect them to be so pretty and neat. Sho-chan can do everything, ne…
“Ah… it’s nothing. I’m glad to see you’re OK now though.” Sho said, trying to hide the blush on his cheeks.
“I think we’re ready, right? Tonight will be the rehearsal dinner and then tomorrow will be the big day… I wonder if the couples are ready.”
“Don’t worry, I think they’re more than ready to be together officially. Now, let’s go to the restaurant to double check the menu for tonight.”
The rest of the evening went fast, but successfully. It turned out that all the hand-made meny tags and the little wedding gifts that Aiba and Sho made excited all the guests. Some even asked for the tutorial so that they can make their own version of the gifts. The Sakuraiba pair also created a short video to tell the story of how the couple met and ended up together, which grabbed everyone’s attention and made everyone laugh. Aiba, being a professional event planner, prepared tons of activities and surprises at the dinner, making the event unforgettable for everyone involved.
Seeing all the guests laughing happily and especially seeing the Ohmiya couple smiling contently struck Sakurai with a sudden realization.
This is what he meant… This is probably the magic of marriage, ne… Uniting everyone and spreading happiness. I’ve never seen Satoshi-kun this happy before. I wonder how it felt to be together forever with the one you love… Now I understand why Aiba-kun tried so hard. This is definitely the once-in-a-lifetime experience… By the way, where is Aiba-kun? I haven’t seen him for a while…
Noticing Aiba’s sudden disappearance made Sakurai a little worried. He just got out of the hospital not long ago. So he decided to go find Aiba. It took Sakurai a while, but he finally found the younger guy standing in the balcony on second floor of the restaurant.
“Aiba-chan, what are you doing here? Are you OK?”
“Oh, Sho-chan. I didn’t know you were here… I just needed a little air. A lot of people came today, ne~”
“Uhm… But you did well though. Everyone loved the dinner! And all the stuff you made, too!” Noticing something different in Aiba, Sho gently approached the taller guy before asking again, “Are you sure you are OK, Aiba-chan? You seem like something is bothering you…”
“I think I’m really selfish, Sho-chan. Seeing Nino-chan so happy with Ohno-san made me jealous… I’m happy for both of them, from the bottom of my heart. But… what’s this feeling in my heart…. It’s like…. I also want that happiness, you know. I want to fall in love, I want to be loved back, and I also want to be together with that person until ‘death do us apart’….”
Not being able to hold the emotions inside, Aiba looked into Sho’s eyes with his own, brimming with tears before continuing.
“But I don’t think I deserve it though. I’ve always caused trouble for people. Even for my best friend’s wedding… I’m tooo weak…”
Before Sho could understand the emotions building inside of him witnessing Aiba in such desperate state, he found himself coming closer to Aiba. He used his two hands to cup Aiba’s face before softly landing a kiss on his plum lips.
People often say when you kiss someone you love, the world seems to stop, but Sakurai doesn’t believe that. He’s kissed so many beautiful girls a lot of times, but he’s never once experienced that.
And he probably never will, if not for the person he’s kissing right now. It was just a slight peck, and the involved people were busy blushing, but the world did stop. For a moment, everything froze inside Sakurai. His mind went blank, or more precisely, went blank with only one thing left: Aiba Masaki. Suddenly, nothing mattered except for making this moment, this experience, this feeling last forever.
Unfortunately for Sakurai, the person made the miracle happen is not his lover. They barely know each other and up until just two days ago, they were still arguing over the wedding preparation. So even though his heart was dying to claim Aiba’s soft lips forever, his head was bringing him back to reality. Sakurai pulled away from Aiba awkwardly before turning his head to hide his deep red cheeks.
“I… I’m… sorry…. I don’t know what got to me, but I… I…. just couldn’t resist it…”
Aiba wasn’t doing much better either. He was shocked by Sakurai’s action, but he was more shocked at how disappointed he felt when Sakurai pulled away from him. And before he could understand the situation fully, he found himself pulling the older man back and smashed their lips together.
Sho opened his eyes widely due to Aiba’s sudden action, but his head wasn’t nearly as fast as his heart. He weaved his hands through the younger’s soft hair and pulled him down to deepen the kiss. This time, the kiss lasted much longer and when it finally broke, both of them were panting heavily.
After a moment of silence and no one dared to look into each other’s eyes, Sho decided to start. “So… I guess you couldn’t resist it, either, huh?”
Aiba looked straight into Sho’s beautiful eyes before answering, “I guess… not…” His face couldn’t be any redder, and with his lips swollen from their previous kiss, Sho felt his heart wildly running in his chest. Suddenly, he felt the emotions that he had been searching for, the feeling when you’re just happy to see the special one to you alive, the feeling when no matter what happens, as long as that person is with you, you can rule the world, the feeling when you realize you found your true love.
Sho gently cupped Aiba’s face the second time for the night before looking straight into his brown doe-like eyes and whispered,
“I think I’m in love, Aiba-chan. And this might be too fast, but I think I finally want to be together with someone ‘ until death do us apart’. I felt this way since the moment I first met you, but I kept ignoring it and avoiding it. I was scared. I’ve never been in love before. I was scared that I would ruin this precious feeling. I was scare that you wouldn’t love me back. I was scare that I wouldn’t be able to protect this feeling. But I won’t run away from it anymore, Aiba-chan. I won’t run away from YOU anymore. Not when I know I have a slight hope, not when you’re soooo seductive, and not when I know you are more important than anything I could ever have. I love you, Masaki, and I will fight for my love from now on.”
Tears started falling on Aiba’s face when Sakurai was whispering his confession to him, but he didn’t even care to wipe them away. All he cared and knew at that moment was that the person he loved loves him back. Nothing else mattered. So he threw himself into the older guy’s embrace before murmuring to his chest, “I love you, too, Sho-chan! And let’s fight for our love together, ne~!”
The sky was dark as it was already past midnight, but there were two souls under that sky who found their lights of happiness.
