Friends Cut

Aug 08, 2022 15:14

This is a public entry - geared to my Live Journal friends - to let you know I just did a fairly large friends cut. I hate doing them, but every so often I need to clean house of journals which have been abandoned for at least a year or purposely "ended" at the time of the "LJ Exodus" this past March ( Read more... )

For me, a few journals were abandoned for MORE than 3 years! In my previous friends cut before this, I deleted journals left dormant for a decade or more! It's sad, though -- I had a connection with some of these people. I kept hoping they'd come back - but at some point, you realize it's not happening. But - I understand keeping them listed - just in case. It's a sad way of saying "goodbye" when you can't really say it to them.

I did keep a few journals that I know are dormant, but I've met them in real life, and/or have other connections with them and a friendship that goes beyond Live Journal. Once in a while, I go back to read old entries of theirs.

There was never any question. This friends cut only had to do with removing abandoned or inactive journals!

Looks like I made the cut even though I don't post as often as I would like!

Of course you're here with me! I only removed abandoned or inactive journals, and yours is anything but that. Some people post more t than others, but I only consider not posting for more than a year "inactive."

I checked, because I know I am a quiet lurker in so many cases..... it looks like I'm still in but I just wanted to let you know I am reading and living along with you even if its been a bit quiet in my corner lately!

I have periods of time when I'm a lurker, too. But - your journal is anything but "abandoned" or "inactive." I think journaling as a practice comes and goes depending on one's life.

Sometimes one writes about life, and life is sometimes quieter then.
Sometimes one both writes and lives life. (Things are hectic then!)
Sometimes one lives life and puts journaling on the back burner.

That is all very true....

Thank you for understanding.

Culling old journals is always pretty sad, one always hopes in vain that the people will come back. I need to bit the bullet and cull mine.

I've been a bit slack in my Journal posts, I'll do a general update soon.

Culling old journals IS sad, and it was a sad process, but one I finally decided to do because my f/l was didn't reflect who was reading -- and who I was reading. I wanted to evaluate who was active and keep them. But - when I clicked to remove a few, there was this sadness - knowing I was probably cutting off the small chance of reconnecting with that person. It's a process of moving on.

Your journal is nowhere near "abandoned" or "inactive!" People have different rhythms of posting, and some are daily posters, others are monthly. But, each is active in his or her own way.
