Also, have you read The Road? Add it to your list. Depressing shit. I blame it for the rut I'm in now, but if you think you can get through the post apocalyptic stuff, read it.
One way or another, this is probably the most... pulling book I've read in a long time. I hate myself for not putting it down already.
So far that I can see, it's just about a father and son (about 6), migrating from the harsh winters in the north (around NY) to the south.
I have read The Road and honestly, I thought there were too many weather descriptions and not enough cannibals.(Have you gotten to that part? It's pretty freaky.) I don't know..I couldn't really connect with either character so emotionally it didn't do much for me.
It was definitely one of the most depressing things I've ever read though. And..I enjoyed watching "No Country for Old Men" so I may like the movie for this better.
I think you would love The Book Thief. It's so heart-breaking and beautiful. And it's narrated by DEATH! How wicked is that?
Maybe it's just because it's my worst-fear-turned-reality.
Have you read the Seventh Tower series? I never finished it, but I remember loving the first three books. That was from elementary school, though, so it's fuzzy. xD
