Hey, I sometimes wonder this too - I mean I often find myself mentioning him & then there's always a sympathetic noise from the person I'm talking to and I wonder if maybe they think "oh you're still not over that then". But like you say it's not like that - it just feels natural to talk about him. He's still a big part of my life, even if he isn't around anymore.
I find that including the fact that he's dead is more than I want to explainjintyNovember 15 2010, 13:12:52 UTC
To a new acquaintance I'd probably just leave it as "my friend Andy" as Jen says.
I do talk about him sometimes to people who didn't know him, like R - and of course then I'm talking to my partner about a person who is probably my most significant ex, not that it matters in some ways, because he was a friend for longer than we were actually together. When R and I were first getting together it was a bit weird talking about Andy to him, but yeah, I do it and it's fine.
I didn't know him as well as everyone else replying, but I think about Andy often too, and talk about him too. You shouldn't worry about doing it, this is how we keep people remembered : )
Thanks Anna, that is very reassuring. I know you say you didn't know Andy that well, but I would say that if he made any impact on you then you knew him well enough...
