IKEA, 35 weeks, ranty rant

Jun 19, 2010 03:41

For the longest time, I thought IKEA was supposed to be an expensive store.  Why?  Because when I'd see IKEA furniture on design shows and in magazines, that shit looked trendy & modern and all Bauhaus-like.  It looked like the kind of thing rich people had in their houses.  Not only that, there aren't very many IKEA stores around.  It wasn't until ( Read more... )

Ah yes, I don't miss that part at all. You're right -- don't sweat it, because it'll be over soon and then it'll be six months before you even remember what it was like. ;) Sounds like you're doing great though, which is awesome.

It's funny what you say about shopping being all there is to do...that's a lot of my complaint with where I live, too. I didn't know anybody but my husband shared it, though -- my friends are mostly in Boston, where there's *plenty* to do, heh.

Best of luck if we don't see you again before the big day!

Yeah. It depresses me to see how every town in our area is all shopping centers & fast food joints. ..eh, what can you do? Man, I love New England in general. If it weren't for how affordable college was out here compared to everywhere else, I would have moved back a long time ago, before I even met my husband.

And thank you! I hope I'm not a pansy when it comes time to deliver. I hate pain. :)

Learn Lamaze, if you haven't! Ignore all the squishy visualization shit -- you won't be able to concentrate anyway -- but the breathing is a godsend. I *still* use it when I hurt myself. ;)

We took some classes that went into *some* relaxation and breathing techniques. I don't remember too much. I'd love to look at some Youtube videos on Lamaze breathing, but I plan on getting an epidural so I don't know if I will be using it? Then again, I have a pretty low tolerance to uterine pain (period cramps, cramps lately, etc.) so it could be useful long before I even set foot in the hospital. :)

Some of the squishy visualization seems really cool. Like this one about picturing a flower that's opening. I'm going to try my best to picture that when I'm going into labor.

I used to think the same thing about IKEA, but luckily, I had a college roommate who informed me otherwise. :-) I'm still cheap enough, however, that I'll settle for DIY furniture from Big Lots.

Do you have any other needs I/we can help out with at some point? You say the clothes are taken care of, but if there's anything else, I'd like to try and chip in.

I never had luck with Big Lots furniture... their bookshelves were crap at the store I went to. However, our outdoor gazebo is from there and it rocks! I don't know if there's an IKEA out there, but if there is, trust me, you'd probably pay about the same or less for their stuff as you would at Big Lots. I have never before seen a 4-drawer dresser for $52 in my life. It was in great shape, the only reason it was on sale for that much was because it was a floor model and already assembled. So we didn't even have to put it together ourselves! I love their clearance section. Shit, I paid $30 for a tiny 2-drawer dresser thing from Wal-Mart that I had to put together myself and it's nowhere near as nice. Just telling you these things because if you hate shopping as much as I do, I can tell you this is probably the cheapest you can go with furniture and home decor if you're buying new ( ... )
