Rex laughs for the first time

I keep hearing this song in commercials, "Hey mambo, mambo italiano, hey mambo..." and I really like it.  I feel like a big dork for liking it.  It's so catchy and fun.

Speaking of fun, Rex laughed for the first time tonight!  I was nuzzling his tummy and making silly noises and he started laughing!  It was so amazing and adorable.  I keep using ( Read more... )

Aww, happy kids are great. :-)

Also, we should definitely talk Kushiel sometime.

I am so glad you enjoyed the Kushiel series. I feel like Jacqueline Carey just HAS to be this awesome lady, so much so that I'd really like to just hang out with her and have a glass of wine, and talk world-building.

I actually really enjoyed the second trilogy, and I've finished the first book in the third trilogy. A couple (non-spoilery) things -- in the first two trilogies, I felt like there were whole paragraphs where I would stop and say, "Wow, this is fantastically written," and I'd copy it down to save, because there were these lines that were so ... resonant? I don't know, so good. But in the third book, I don't think I did that at all. Although, to be fair, I think that I'm in a different place now than I was when I read the first two trilogies, certainly older (read the first trilogy in high school and the second trilogy in college)... but still I have high hopes for her work. I think this third trilogy could go somewhere really special. I'm waiting for the second book to come down in price ( ... )

I hear you on the "fantastically written" parts. I wish I could find it, but there was this part where either Melisande or Phedre (in her thoughts) talked about love being far more cruel than evil. That really struck a chord with me.

Not to mention all that crazy shit that goes on in the books. Great storytelling, but daunting for me, as I still harbor vague dreams about writing a fantasy novel. (sigh)

I would love to have wine with Jacqueline Carey too. Or champagne, and pretend it's joie. :) From what she writes, she sounds like she's a sexually liberated woman (on top of being a terrific writer), so I think she'd be fun to talk to.

Sorry for coming out of the blue like this, but I stumbled onto your journal through that writer's block thing that LJ does, and I noticed you read, and then I noticed you are a poet, and then I read that Fairchild poem, and, um, yes...

I wanted to say that a baby's babbling is a lovely thing. He really is trying out the basics of talking - they all do that, and the most amazing thing is, every language has its own babble. One day I'd love to see a sign language baby "babble".

Also, the poem? It was pretty. Two parts, the last line of the second passage, and the latter part of the last one, really hit my heart.

Hello! Welcome! I don't know if I can rightfully call myself a poet, but I am crazy about poetry. I am so glad you read and enjoyed "Beauty." I had the honor of hearing Fairchild aloud, and it never ceases to simultaneously break my heart and uplift me.

And yeah... I notice that Japanese babies babble differently than American babies. It's really cool. :) If you find a baby that knows sign language, please send him/ her my way, so I can promptly adopt him/ her!! <3
