Ok, I'm trying not to get all stressed about making a decision because there's a great chance it won't even happen/be able to happen, but...
There is a *slight* chance that I will be able to stay on after the UK tour (just to Ireland then England), to go to Scotland or Paris (whichever I choose, or whichever is cheaper in the long run!).

I was really looking forward to a reply from you!
Yeah, it really is just the thought of being all by myself wondering, "Where am I, and how the hell do I get out?" or even worse, "Where am I going to be sleeping tonight and how do I get there?"
It all just seems too good of a chance to pass up! But the thought is terrifying at the same time.
About me finding out, it's more I need to make a decision for sure and let my professor know so that she can go ahead and ask the tour liaison person for a "deviation" ticket. Instead of her asking, What if I needed a deviation ticket, blah blah blah... If that even made sense.

Yes. You made total sense. And I very much think you should DEVIATE. There's just too much fun in the meaning. I'm also sure you would have reservations at different lodgings-- this would just need to be taken care of in advance...like as soon as you find out whether or not you're going.

And hopefully this will be of some minor comfort:

If I can get lost in Rome (with a very basic understanding of "please" and "thank you") and still manage to safely find my way back to the hotel I didn't really know the name of--- YOU WILL BE FINE. I'm pretty positive you pick up on stuff quicker than I do, and I really think you'll want to kick your own ass if you don't stay.

:o)

I believe in you! I think you will be perfectly fine in a foreign city by yourself. Like Jess said, after a week or so, it doesn't seem all that scary at all, and by the end of your group trip, I bet you'll be totally comfortable (or at least as totally comfortable as you can be). I say go for it! Also, my vote goes to Paris because it is seriously gorgeous and I know that you will love it. I wish I had the money to come join you.
