'I did a lot of research on Hellhounds, trying to find a way out of Dean's deal. Typically, Hellhounds' victims look like they died naturally of a heart attack, no matter how violent the actual claiming was. But Dean's special; the Hellhounds didn't clean up afterwards. Lilith wants me to remember what he looked like-as if I can ever forget. Dean...'

I love that extra detail--it's so in keeping with Sam--and the fact that Sam has that as his last memory...*shivers*

'Dean can't get out, but I can get in! I already know about the Devil's Gate in Wyoming, and Bobby said it was "a Devil's Gate", which means there's more than one. We don't have the Colt anymore, but a different Devil's Gate would have a different key...'

The whole Colt idea was great. Too bad it didn't work. Oh, man, Sam's breaking my heart. So are you.

Thanks so much for reviewing. I'm so glad I joined the celebration, it finally got me motivated to write this, I've been thinking about it since the ep aired. And bec I let the idea percolate, I got some guidance from the later eps (Lazarus and IKWY Did Last Summer) as to what Sam was up to.

I remember SPNVille had a thread about hellhound victims and what happened to them, that's how the heart attack issue came up, so I decided to use that. And I've never seen anyone come up with a reason for Sam picking Pontiac, which just seemed so obvious to me. I mapquested it and found there are 2 towns named Pontiac in Illinois, had to choose by County name which one I wanted, so that went into the story, too.

Very vivid. Made me cry with the flashbacks to Dean that Sam kept having.

Thanks for the kind words. Dean's words came late into this. I was going to write something about Sam always being guided by Dean's words and then - duh! show, don't tell - I figured out that I could use a lot of Dean's words to move the plot along. And I didn't exactly know how to end it, til I heard John's words from Salvation. Perfect ending.

Thanks, glad you liked it. I needed an ending, and John's words just leaped out at me when I thought "end".
