Okay, look. The article is probably containing some facts, but poll results can be used in many ways (especially if you only poll people you KNOW will answer the way you want them to) no one is saying WHAT distributors turned this down in the US, and...frankly? This whole thing sounds like this newspaper's attempt to say "LOOK! The American's are being stupid again! Let's all laugh and point at them!" I know that we often bring it on ourselves, but seriously. I'm not entirely buying this article as 100% unbiased and factual.

The truth is that the producer quoted that to start the bidding war he wanted for the distribution. The distributors are now fighting over the film.
I can't seem to find the link to that bit of the news article, but I know I read it.
And anyone who thinks that's true knows nothing about American film distribution. The *live* for that kind of controversy.
