Zero lay on her couch semi-diagonally, her head dangling off the cushion, her gaze on a takeout Chinese carton she really should throw away on the coffee table, her phone held to her ear as her brother, Twitch, said, "Zero, it's Thursday."

"I know."

"It's Thursday, the Oscars were Saturday, and you haven't updated your web show yet."

"I know."

"Are you alive? Have you been kidnapped? Use the word 'fish' in a sentence if someone has a gun to your head," said Parker when Zero picked up the phone.

Someone else had an alert on Zero's website too.

"I haven't been kidnapped," Zero said. "And that's a bad word to use, what if I was chasing my bird around the apartment right this second?"

She wasn't. She was still flopped on the couch feeling sorry for herself.

"I'd have a first response team there within 90 seconds," Parker promised. "Soooo? What's the deal? New gig? New guy?"
