My Mom had a hernia surgery she'd be hoping to avoid for years because of the likelihood that recovery would be a nightmare. She had an open incision for months and months and things finally closed and her once gigantic hernia was finally gone. A couple of weeks later, she turned up with a massive internal wound infection and external presentation of a skin infection. They put a line in and she's getting huge doses of antibiotics with the hopes that they won't have to undo the entire surgery.
Surgical recovery is so much more complex than just the surgery itself. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.
Oh gosh, that's terrifying. Is she still in the antibiotic stage? How is she doing?
Stories like this remind me of how lucky I've been. I'm not just blowing sunshine; I've had two really major surgeries and no scary drama. I appreciate the kind words, but wow, warmest thoughts and hopes to you and your mom. I'm so sorry for what she's going through.
She's still getting the antibiotics, so I'm hoping that knocks it out for her. She's allergic to everything, so the drug choice was tricky.
Thanks for the nice words. I think everyone underestimates what a long, hard road surgical recovery can be. Let's hope the rest of yours is uneventful.
