Ask around your art college? I agree that it sounds like a scam.

Sounds like a scam. First the flattery, then the asking for money, then the forms, deadlines and demands. It's not the way to run a legitimate show; you'd send some e-mails expressing interest, explaining the show, and asking for interest from the artists first. It's too forward. It's also too broad, apparently just the registration fee gets you in?

Doesn't mean that a whole bunch of artists aren't going to cough up $50 to have their egoes inflated, though. Reminds me of vanity publishers- that legal and questionable market of charging creative types for the appearance of success.

Scam, scam, massive scam and you should escalate it to keep people from being taken in.

The site apwartgallery.com has IP address 208.109.14.128, which is registered as belonging to GoDaddy.com. This is the site that has contacted you asking you to send them money. It is an exact copy of the site apwarts.com, which is mentioned in the "please contact" thing, and seems to be a legitimate gallery. Their site is hosted by Yahoo.

You should contact GoDaddy at abuse@godaddy.com and let them know that (a) a site belonging to another group has been stolen and is being hosted by them, which is probably a pretty hefty copyright infringement all on its own, and (b) that site is being used to run a scam. You should also get in touch with the people at the real APW gallery and ask them to get this information out there.
