The problem with running at 100mph for weeks on end is that the moment you stop you tend to crash. Hard. Ouch.

This is probably rude, but I need help with the use of a ring flash - I'm looking to rent this one and don't know anything about their use. Will it, for example fit my 50mm 1.8? What can you tell me about using them? Am I being a pain in the ass?

Hi Lori, hearing from you is never rude! I haven't ever used a ring flash but the one you are looking at is for Macro photography. I am not sure what you are planning on using it for (but I can't wait to see). I have been eyeballing the alien bees ring flash for a while. Here is a link to some ring flash references.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the link. I'd seen some references to their use in model photography and have been invited to do some club shooting. Since, as you've seen, I don't really use flash I wanted to try something that would be less annoying (to me) than a full on flattening flash I thought I would rent one and try that. I thought I remembered you having mentioned using one - so I guess that was wrong :-)

How are things? I haven't been to class in a while - lots of stuff going on - including my new guitar!
