Hooray for touristy adventures! You should totally do all those things. When George and I first moved up here we did all kinds of touristy stuff. It's fun, and you get to learn the history of the city. For example, downtown Seattle used to be even more hilly than it is now. Then they decided to level it off some, but the funding was questionable. So they built up all the streets so that they were even with the 2nd floor of many of the existing buildings, but they didn't fill up the sidewalks for years because people needed to be able to get to the stores that were on the first floor. So, in order to cross the street, you would need to exit the building on the ground floor, climb up a ladder, cross the street and climb down another ladder. Looking at this from a gendered perspective, this basically made it so that women could not move freely around downtown, what with the skirts and corsets and bustles and all. Fun ( ... )

Every time I've had a bike, I've never used it, or it's gotten stolen, or it's rusted with disuse. It seems like a good idea...
