yeh-- I think we're pretty much in agreement here. I'm of the camp that says marriages are for churches to honor and civil unions should be for the government.
Honestly, as I'm no longer involved in the religious world, I don't really care if a church honors a committment I have with another man. What matters to me is rights, and as longs I get the same ones as a married couple, I don't care what my committment gets labeled.
I totally agree, but I don't think that inequality is more important than the ones already in place is all.
IMO, the best way to do it WOULD be to get rid of marriage licenses altogether like you said, and let it be up to individual churches/denominations to decide which couples they would recognized as married and so on, even so far as whether or not they would let someone get married in their church.
