Its funny how some understandings come to you late in life. I suppose middle of life in my case. :) When I get in debates/arguments or present my point in discussions I often come across as the asshole or jackass. Hm. Hope I fall into that "lively engaging debate" category, rather than the "hypocrites" category, because I DO like to play devil's advocate sometimes. I just think of it as trying to see all sides of an argument, in the hopes that by doing so I/we can be more sure that our view is the right one, insofar as that is possible. With some issues, you can never be sure.

I LIKE arguing, although I would call it debating, and I like arguing with YOU. I don't always agree with you - you take some startlingly stark views of things, sometimes - but I always enjoy hearing your perspective, and you sometimes nudge me a little closer to a different way of seeing things.

Bleah. Rambling myself. Come over sometime, we'll play games and drink beer and argue as much or as little as you like. Miss you.

I go back and forth with you - sometimes you really believe your side and you are just arguing your point. Many times you use the phrase 'yeah, I'm an asshole' inside your debate. You point it out and it sounds like you don't care - it's not your fault because you are just that way. No choice really. That's really when I feel like you are full of it. You are an asshole in those arguments because you choose to be. Either that or you feel like you are being an asshole so you might as well point it out. I have the same problem with people getting pissed at me with bluntness. Sometimes I deal well, sometimes I don't. I feel like this is overly blunt, but what the hell. I think sometimes people think you are an asshole because you tell them you are.
