Rented "Confessions of a Shopaholic" over the weekend. While I take the point of the Debt Collection Agent, since the movie is set in the US, some of what he did is illegal. In the US, debt collectors are only allowed to call between specific hours - I think 8-8, that may vary, it might be as late as 9. If you ask them to stop calling or request communication via the post, they must comply. If you ask them not to call your place of work, they must comply. And under no circumstance may they reveal to a third party who they are, why they are calling you and how much you owe, for how long you have owed it, or any personal information. So, that whole TV appearance = major lawsuit material, and at the very least, he'd be fired.
It worked well in the movie... and reading the book now, I see it was originally set in the UK, and I do not know how their laws may differ... But, just one of those things that I am enough of a dork to notice and be bothered by.
