1,000 evacuees are coming to pdx this week. oregon is one of 12(?) states volunteering to help shelter some people. i went down to se 14th & stark last night (the old monroe high school) where a lot of the people will be staying. there were hundreds of cots set up in the gym with a hand painted "welcome to portland" sign on the wall. the cop

Katie is also looking in to this. If you find out any info please let me know. I would love to volunteer Friday or Saturday but before that I've got the show, which I think for some people will be a welcome if short escape from what is going on in the world right now. Nonetheless I want to do more than give cash and if they need me I want to be there. Yeah.

Before you drop by the school site I would call the local Red Cross Chapter at 503.284.1234 to ask about being a possible volunteer. You will need to go to the Red Cross website, fill out a volunteer application with references, and attend one of their training sessions. I know this might seem like a lot of work just be a volunteer, but they want people trained and checked out before you begin to work with victims that might be in a state of crisis. I plan to volunteer too so maybe we can go to a training together. *hugs*
