Most of the time I think they're mouthy because its part of who they are, and they enjoy it, like a tough little dog. But it works just as well as a defensive cover.

Rumble had never considered himself a cuddly person. He had no aversion to physical contact, it wasn't like he'd flip out about it. But it was not a requirement of his day to day life. A lack of it was not going to make him feel lonely, and an abundance of it made him feel crowded. He'd fall in a drunken pile with his dock mates sometimes. Soundwave performing his regular maintenance was a nice way to strengthen the bond, and keep clean. But really, deep down? All he needed was to dock in and synch up occasionally. Nothing more than that, nothing less.

And yet he didn't find himself objecting when Steeljaw curled around him, didn't object to the massive paw across his lap or the head pushing him down against that big warm frame.

Steeljaw wasn't Ravage. He wasn't even shaped much like Ravage but for a passing resemblance. But the token familiarity was enough to feel a bit safe, a little familiar.

I'd like too. The more I think about it, the more I like it. The dynamic is just fun for me, and I don't think it gets explored much, not as characters, but as personalities.

TC takes him out with him one night when he's playing whatever giant robots do instead of cards, and Hot Rod won't behave himself and be respectful. Thundercracker tells him if he doesn't knock it off, he will sling him over his shoulder, and walk around the block while he kicks and yells.

Hot Rod is good for five minutes before goading someone.

Hot Rod believes TC next time he threatens to go for a walk.
