"You know I want to keep talking to you but I have two projects to finish tonight," Ryan reasoned sincerely as he lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling dreamily. He could easily fall asleep listening to Chad's soft voice. "I'll be up really, really late," he added seductively.
"Oh really?" Chad questioned, suddenly intrigued. "How late would that be exactly?"
Ryan smirked, playing along, "Well, as long as it takes to get the job done."
"I like the sound of that," Chad chuckled, grinning in approval.
"I bet you do," the blond purred, sitting up on the edge of his bed. He swung his feet back and forth, staring at his sock-covered feet, blushing. He could never fight the heat rushing to his cheeks whenever the situation involved Chad. The bushy-haired teen just had that effect on him. It was okay because he knew it was the same way with Chad. Most times it was painfully obvious and usually ended in a passionate session of hot sex. Not that Ryan was complaining at all.
"Ryan!" his boyfriend yelled, bringing him out of his heated thoughts. "What's up with you?"
Smiling, he answered, "I'm just thinking about you."
"Of course you are," Chad replied, cockily. Shaking his head, Ryan stood from his bed and headed out of the room, jogging down the stairs and into the kitchen. He propped the phone between his ear and shoulder, opening the refrigerator to gaze at its contents. After grabbing a bottle of his favorite Aquafina water, he closed the door and set it on the counter to twist the cap off.
He raised the drink to his lips as his mom entered the kitchen, grinning widely. "How is my little Ducky today?"
Ryan just smiled in response, waiting for Chad to continue speaking.
His mom took the hint and remained silent, passing behind him to grab something to drink. "So Mr. Cocky, what are our plans for tomorrow? Are you coming over here?"
Mrs. Evans gasped, an idea forming in her head. "Why doesn't Chad come over for dinner?"
"Uhh," Ryan muttered hesitantly. "As great as that would be..." he trailed off, leaving the rest to speak for itself..
"I'd love to come over for dinner," he heard Chad say, probably loud enough for his mom to hear.
"You really don't have to," Ryan tried, desperately. He loved his family to death, but they were just...too much. And to ask his boyfriend of three months to put up with them was asking too much too soon. He'd introduce them when he thought the circumstances were right, meaning he didn't think his family's craziness would cause Chad to dump him. Chad insisted his parents were probably worse, but he'd never spent much time around Ryan's family. The majority of the time Chad was over they were up in his room, door locked.
They never had to deal with them. Chad had met his parents once though and they seemed like decent people. Ryan would always argue that he'd never spent more than five minutes with him. Then Chad would sweetly reply that it didn't matter because he wasn't dating them. It always seemed to make Ryan feel better.
"I would love to have dinner with you and your family," Chad concluded, firmly. His mom bounced in excitement, showing she'd heard Chad's answer. She left the kitchen, giving Ryan his privacy.
Once he knew his mom was out of earshot, he sighed, irritated, "Why did you have to do that?"
"Do what?"
"You have no idea what you've gotten yourself into," Ryan told him. He screwed the cap back up and headed out of the kitchen, bottle in hand. He took a left and went up the stairs returning to his room once again. He fell back onto his bed, the bottle of water tumbling off to the side.
"It's not going to be that bad," Chad tried to assure him but Ryan was too stubborn to listen.
"You keep telling yourself that," Ryan said as he sat up, running a hand through his short, blond hair. "Listen, I'm going to go. Prepare for the awful fate you just condemned us to."
"Love you too," Chad replied, playfully. They hung up seconds later, promising to talk about it at school the next day. Ryan went to bed late that night after finishing his projects. The dinner was still on his mind even then. He prayed that Chad was right; that it wasn't going to be as terrible as he thought. Too bad he had a hard time believing that.

"...they're definitely going to show embarrassing baby pictures. That's a given. Oh, they'll tell you all my humiliating stories as well. They'll think it's funny and nothing could be cuter. You don't have to enjoy it. Just laugh if it's not too horrible," Ryan explained as he continued to "brief" Chad on his family.
"Ryan," Chad said firmly, stopping and dragging Ryan to the side of the hallway. "Stop worrying so much. It'll be fine." He kissed the blond's nose, hoping it'd calm him down a bit.
"Oh, and I haven't even began on Sharpay yet!" he exclaimed throwing his arms up dramatically.
"I deal with her everyday," the bushy-haired teen informed him. "Not like it'll be any different."
"Boy are we in for a treat then," Ryan laughed, even though it wasn't funny. Chad just stared at him, raising in eyebrow. He was confused. After meeting his family that night, for the first time he'd understand.
-
"No naked pictures Mom. Please spare me the humiliation," Ryan begged as his family sat on the couch.
Sharpay scoffed, crossing her left leg over the right in a stuck up manner. "Like he hasn't seen you naked before."
His mom was just about to question Sharpay's comment, when the doorbell rang. "I will gladly go get that!" he announced as he bolted from the room. He opened the door and sighed in adoration when he saw his boyfriend, standing on the porch, all dressed up, with a bunch of flowers in his hands. Chad leaned in, kissing him chastely. Ryan stepped aside and let Chad in. He took the stylish, brown jacket from his boyfriend and hung it up in their closet.
Although he dreaded what might happen, he lead Chad into the living room anyway. Instantly Chad walked up to Ryan's mom, kissing her hand sweetly and handing her the flowers. "These are for you, Mrs. Evans."
"Aww, how thoughtful of you sweetie," she cooed, standing up from the couch. "I'm going to go put these in some water."
-
"And he stepped on the ball," Mr. Evans finished and the room erupted in laughter, excluding Ryan of course, who'd heard the joke far too many times to find it even remotely amusing anymore.
"That's a very adorable picture of Ryan over there," Chad said, pointing to a picture encased in a brown frame, sitting innocently on the shelf of their entertainment system. Mrs. Evans stood from her spot to grab the picture and handed it to Chad, who laughed whole-heartedly.
"How did I miss that?" Ryan grumbled under his breath. His mom just slapped his knee affectionately. Ryan desperately wished he had a sharp object in his hand, or even a blunt one. He just wanted to somehow knock himself out so he could forget about this all together. He wondered if the corner of the picture frame was sharp enough.
"Not like he hasn't seen you naked before!" she insisted with a wink. He looked over at Chad, expecting to see him uncomfortable and probably blushing. Instead, Chad was still laughing, not even the slightest bit embarrassed.
There was a loud bing, telling them dinner was finally ready. The family got up, heading into the dining room. Ryan pulled Chad back onto the couch and motioned that he and Chad would join them in a second. His mom winked knowingly. Oh god, he thought he was going to die right there.
"I'm sorry," he apologized, looking up at Chad. "This is horrible and I know you'd rather be spending your Friday night doing something at least remotely entertaining. But I really appreciate this."
Chad shrugged, caressing Ryan's cheek gently. "They're your family," he told the blond. "There's nothing you can do about it. Besides, I kinda like them."
"Really?" Ryan questioned, clearly surprised.
"Yeah," the basketball star confirmed. "They're cool. It's very...natural."
"Natural?" the actor raised an eyebrow.
"Like genuine," Chad supplied. "They're not faking acceptance, like my parents would. It feels natural. It's nice to feel like I actually am accepted somewhere."
"You got all that from spending half an hour with my family?" Ryan asked, disbelieving. "I just got that they're really annoying and totally embarrassing."
"Well I like your parents," Chad concluded, kissing Ryan on the lips. "But not as much as I love you," he said as he brushed his thumb across Ryan's cheek, savoring the shudder it caused. He stood up, grabbing Ryan's hand, leading him to the kitchen.
As they sat down at the table, Ryan couldn't help but feel that eating dinner with his dorky family and amazing boyfriend was the most natural thing in the world and if he had to be totally humiliated to enjoyed such an experience then he was okay with that. He had Chad's assurance and that's what really mattered to him. Things couldn't get any better.
"And he ripped off his diaper and shouted, at the top of his lungs, 'No diaper! POTTY!'"
"Mom!" Ryan groaned. Oh yeah, things were perfect.
