Oh, this is gorgeous. Really gorgeous and wonderful and poignant. Chad's confused emotions and Jason's story and the rumors that circulated at school. I am so very happy that you didn't have the boys pledge undying love. They like each other, they're sexually attracted to each other, and they want to protect one another. That sounds a lot like love to me, but from the inside, I know that emotions can be scary and confusing, even without the onus of being gay and having the whole school watching.
Even in the midst of a all the drama, you leavened the story with humor and wit and kept the characterizations intact. It's really phenomenally awesome, and I'm so glad you shared it with us (and toasty_fresh).
Oh, LOVE. I have been craving Ryan/Chad fic since being indoctrinated to HSM this summer in a fit of boredom. I love the Charlie the Unicorn reference, and the bits of hilarity ('for emergencies' cookies!), and Chad standing up for Ryan freshmen year. This is funny and touching and awesome.
I have this big, stupid, grin on my face that I can't get off. I love this story.
“Hey Chad,” said Ryan sleepily. “If you’re just doing this because you feel sorry for me or something, could you not tell me?” He rubbed his cheek against Chad’s shoulder. “That’d be good.”
This part made my heart clench. Seriously, I teared up. Actually I pretty much cried the majority of this fic. It's so bitter sweet and real.
I love how you made Chad bisexual, because I really think he is, especially when it comes to Ryan. I just *sigh* I don't know if I'm voicing what I really want to get across here right. But if you don't get anything out of this ramble, just know that this story has made my day. I'm pretty sure this is my favorite fic as of right now. :)
