18 USC § 871(a) is very clear, and while there have been subsequent court cases that have provided clearer room for what defines political free speech, this is usually in the context of fighting fine(s) and/or imprisonment. it's a shame that this person had to be investigated for what was by all accounts satirical political expression, but we must remember that the person wasn't imprisoned or fined by the government at all (just embarrassed and inconvenienced). by all accounts, this sort of thing would have been investigated regardless of time, place, political climate, or Administration, at any time since this Code went into effect.

However, there is nothing funny or 'haha, serves them right' about what happened. I haven't read the original post so i can't say how suspicious it was, but lock most of my political stuff for this very reason.
