Penelope quietly watched her from her side of the room, where she was sitting on her bed, journal on her lap. "Packing so soon?"

"Graduation's Saturday," Claire pointed out. "And they're making the seniors do some bogus lock-in thing the day before. Just figured I'd get the packing part out of the way now so I'm not stuck trying to do it this weekend or after graduation."

She held up a fuzzy purple cardigan. "Would this fit you? I know I won't need it at home."

"It seemed so far away. I suppose you're right, in getting it out of the way. I would help you if you need it," she offered.

The purple was very tempting. "Are you certain? It's a lovely cardigan," she commented as she slid off her bed and stepped over to Claire. "Looks so warm."

"Thanks, I think I have it," Claire decided, with a quick smile. "Another good thing about starting early? I can go slow."

She rubbed the sweater between her fingers. "It's really warm," she nodded. "Wool. I won't wear it at home. It's yours if you want it."
