Only as much as text-messaging ruined phone calls.

apples and pomagrantes? text messeging is a polite, convient way of saying something quickly to one person. people use twitter because for some unholy, godawful reason they think that every stupid little firing of their neurons should be broadcast for the world. which, if you've also signed up for the idiotic service, is what you want, I suppose. However, (please see the edit) I hate twitter and don't want to read tweets on my friends lists. Look, I may have ADD but I still enjoy content.

There is an awful lot of poorly written unedited drivel on most sites. Most people would accuse livejournal of the same thing, for example. I agree that forwarding Twitter to other sites is rude, however.

I've been unfriending people whose twitter goes to their livejournal. If I wanted to read their twitter, I'd read it.

The primary usefulness of LJ is that it's got a pretty-good privacy locking mechanism combined with the friends page... there simply isn't a better way to say "argh, I hate my boss!" to all of your friends and only your friends.
