Except Obama did not take over GM. GM ran their company into the ground and then came begging the government for your money and mine with threats of bankruptcy that would cripple the economy in a deep recession.

They have OUR money, you're damn right I want someone telling them how to manage things, because they screwed it up themselves.
Now I wish we would have just them go out of business, it would have hurt, but someone would have rebuilt it, but a decision was made, and not just by Obama that if the car companies went under the effect would be to bad, so we gave them OUR money.

Now I know you all think the nice corporate folks would have just managed OUR money fine and with our best interests at heart, but I would rather err on the side of caution given recent history and say we are better off with some controls when they are spending OUR money.

Tell your friend to look a little deeper, maybe look into some facts or something.
Oh, and "Strike a Blow for Freedom"? Really? Boycott the company you just invested in? Um, ok.

Personally, I'd rather Congress took the money back and dropped the deficit back where it was before all this crap ( ... )

Your tax dollars spent the previous 8 years being given to oil and defense companies that made huge profits while giving our troops sup par equipment and raising our gas prices through the roof, I trust you were equally outraged?
Yes oil companies receive huge subsidies every year. Way bigger than what we gave GM.

Your vote matters fine, but you need a majority of people to vote with you for it have an effect. I suspect it mattered in the two previous elections, and mine did not appear to because more people agreed with you.
We wound up in two wars, i did not vote for, with record high gas prices and record high oil company profits no one asked my opinion on, and no bid contracts to defense contractors that had nothing to do with capitalism.

I do agree I wish they would give the money back as well and let them fail, but if they are not going to, take control.

yes, I am equally outraged about all government spending on my behalf without my consent. There is a limited role for government on a federal level. Legitimate taxes levied to pay for the necessary running of the government as a governing body is one thing.

When the government decides it wants to give money to other people to help them out, and does so by forcefully taking money from me without my consent, that's when I get pissed off.

I understand the humanitarian aspect of helping people. I even agree with it to a certain extent. That's what non-profit organizations are for. Everyone can donate money to non-profits as they see fit. That money and resources can then be redistributed to those in need or want. Everyone can also choose NOT to donate money. With the government, you cannot choose not to participate, you're forced to against your will. It's enslavement.
