Hi all~

I'm a 19 year old girl from New York, and I'm considering tanning for my first time.  I have very fair skin that burns easily in the sun, so when I'm outside I frequently use sunscreen and thus get no color at all.  I really hate being so pale during the summer when I'm surrounded by tan girls at the beach and stuff...last summer I used ( Read more... )

When tanning in a bed, you can only use indoor tanning products. You'll want a lotion to start you out with a good base. Your local tanning studio will help you out with what they have in store. Don't cheap out, cheap products won't do much for your skin.

Your skin only maximizes tanning every 48 hours, so don't bother trying to go everyday.

If you burn easily, try out on lower minutes and work up from there.

When I tanned, I always laid on my back, but for half of the tan I would put my arms above my head so that the underside of my arms and the sides of my body would get tan.

And the best thing to do is visit a few studios around your area. Explain that you're new to tanning. Whichever studio gives you the most information, explains their products and beds, that's the one you should go with. Anyone who just tries to sell you minutes doesn't care much about ya.

Tan in moderation.

if you rarely tan in the sun it might be hard to achieve a tan from a bed. if you still want to try, only go for 3 to 5 minutes your first time, use eyewear and indoor tanning lotion with no mineral oil. don't go everyday for fear of overexposure and only up your tanning time by 2 minutes if you can tan for 5 minutes without turning pink. you should tan at 5 minutes the first few times you tan before you up your tanning time, though. if you do turn pink, don't go tanning again until its gone. be sure to moisturize after your done tanning to maintain the life of your tan. good luck! keep us posted on how your tanning will go for you. :)

You will burn in a tanning bed, don't do it. Try a darker shade of Jergens and use a blowdryer to dry it + the heat activates it faster so you don't have to wait for the "gradual" tan.
