Illustrations for "Written in the stars of your eyes" by latemperanza; such a kind and enthusiastic writer and so totally great to work with.

Many thanks as well, to the very lovely the_little_owlfor being my cheerleader and for keeping me going.

In the story Merlin decides that the Tarot card which represents Arthur is the King Of Wands.

latemperanza suggested painting two cards from the Tarot to show Merlin and Arthur.  I thought it was a brilliant idea and had a go.

These two cards are closely based on cards from the famous Rider-Waite Tarot deck.  (Underneath my cards I've also posted a picture of the cards from the real deck).   As you can see I've only made very slight changes to what the characters look like, plus a couple of other minor details, like changing the roses around the top of the Magician card for Morteus flowers, and changing the salamander on the King of Wands card for Aithusa.

These are the real tarot cards from the Rider-Waite deck, which was created by Arthur Waite and Pamela Coleman-Smith in 1909.

A gasp escaped from Merlin’s mouth, and Arthur stared at the last two cards before stating the obvious: “…Well, that’s just cheerful.”

Arthur and Aithusa

While he knew firsthand how dangerous and unforgiving the sea could be, Merlin still found peace in watching the flow and ebb of the swirling waves.
