They're Not Stupid

Americans are arrogant bastards. Yes, yes…I know many people have pointed this out before, but it’s oh-so-true. The comedian Eddie Izzard makes a point of commenting on American stupidity in his stand-up done in San Francisco. In “Dress to Kill” he uses one little satirical statement: “I’m from Europe…where the history comes from.” He then goes ( Read more... )

It's like I always say, three examples of why the world is right and America is wrong: The Metric System, May Day, and Soccer. The whole world uses the metric system, but American's would rather use their own methods. In fact, not only does the world use the metric system but they learn the American method as well, meanwhile Americans use their own method and complain about everyone else using a system they don't understand. May Day is the world wide day to honor the worker. The whole world sees the first day of May to show their respect. Not Americans. May Day is communist, so we came up with Labor Day. And Soccer.... Football is much better because it's more fun. THE ENTIRE WORLD WATCHES THE WORLD CUP, but not here. Soccer is stupid and doesn't make sense. Cuba is a third world country controlled by a communist dictator and people there learn up to three languages ( ... )

absolute power corrupts absolutely.

being the only world superpower left AND being a country run by a fucking cowboy (and not in the good sense. I like SOME cowboys) does not loan itself to consideration of others.

I think geography has a little to do with it, though. If you look at say, europe (TWO HUNDRED LANGUAGES! COUNT THEM! I KNOW YOU WONT!) the people there are in a position where NOT learning at least one other language is detrimental to business. Here, all we've got is mexico. And since our government wants us to believe that mexico is trying to move in here and therefore there is no reason to trade/do business with them amicably... sure, no one bothers to think of foreign relations.

And don't bring up french canada. they don't count. they don't even speak real french :)

anyhow, I think if the sociopolitical and economic success of our country relied more heavily on having to drum up relations instead of having everyone come to us, people would sing a different tune...
