Since the barriers went down, I've seen a lot of different reactions about what to about it. The more immediate concern should be dealing with the creatures that have been spotted. No one will be able to do anything if they start to gain ground within the city ( Read more... )

They are vulnerable to attack, but they don't seem unintelligent.

I've been observing them and you're right, they are intelligent creatures. I want to get a closer look at them and see just how intelligent they are. I'd also like to see if they have any definite weak points.

The one I fought was capable of human speech, if with difficulty. And disconnecting the head killed it.

When you were fighting them, did they follow a pattern of attack or have any special abilities?

I know that creatures like these have been in the City before--once just before I arrived here as part of trio of peculiar animals, and once again much later when they came bearing the 'deities' back after they'd vanished and we'd repulsed an invasion without their help.

What are they capable of, what other animals were about and how was the invasion stopped before?

It was an entirely different situation, you must understand that much at first. The 'deities' themselves seemed to have disappeared--indeed, we thought for a time that they'd been killed, if that's at all possible. And, in their place, claiming to have done away with the 'deities', were other creatures not all that different from them calling themselves 'stewards'. They promised us a way home, if we'd follow them. When it was revealed that this was an overwhelming lie, we ended up standing against them and actually defending the City so many of us despise. It was only after some time that the 'deities' returned again to finish the battle. And they arrived by riding on the backs of these creatures, or ones very much like them. So it wasn't these creatures invading. In fact, they were helping to drive out the last of the invaders ( ... )

[Takes in everything that is being said to him and starts to process it.]

Any theories on why this is happening now? Maybe it's a test of some sort or foreshadowing of what's to come. The so-called deities don't seem too endeared by us. I wouldn't be surprised if they solely keep us around to amuse themselves or they are testing us to use us for some great scheme they have.

I will be, Rosella. Back in my world I was a member of the military and a special operations group. Please be careful as well.

This isn't the first time the barrier has come down. The last time it did...

Though it might be too early yet to tell. Still, nothing good has ever come of having that barrier fall, and I'm certain this time won't be any different.

The creatures who pass where the barrier are about to find that nothing good awaits them here either.

People are starting to rally together, so hopefully that will help keep everyone safe.

I am speaking with someone who said that something like this happened before and they were able to stop the invasion. Unless these are the exact same creatures as before, we can probably use a similar strategy to put them down.

Are you going to be at the welcome center?

[Allows himself to smile a little, to reassure her.] I will be, I promise.

[Blinks, a little confused since that didn't answer his question, but the man probably wants to know how many he has come across first.] None yet, but that's about to change.
